Long Shot- Rhode Islanders

I know it is a long shot, and I've also posted on the Rhode Island local board but it's slow.

After a month of our lawyer dealing with the town and our mortgage company, we finally have everything settled and our house is not going to go up for a tax sale.  It seems that it has been a problem with the mortgage company not paying taxes which we gave them money for at closing.  This coupled with everything else that they've done (trying to tell us they need to up our escrow account for sewer tax when we have a septic system, trying to get us to double-pay for this mistake, etc) has really gotten DH and I fed up and we're looking to break ties completely with our bank.  Obviously I know it won't be that easy.

Can anyone recommend a good mortgage broker?  I know the Rhode Island market sucks and there may not be a chance to even refinance if we no longer have equity in our home, but we want to at least speak with someone to see if this is an option.  I know friends and family are great for recommendations but unfortunately we don't have any up here to turn to.

Thanks!

Re: Long Shot- Rhode Islanders

  • Could you ask your REA for a reference? I am currently shopping for a house again and I'm using the same guy that my STBX used to buy and refinance his first house, along with we used him to purchase our last house. When we bought our house I introduced him to my REA and now she sends everyone to him. That includes me when I said I wanted to buy my own house.
  • Unfortunately our REA was absolutely no help when we bought.  He only recommended one guy as he does USDA loans but our house didn't qualify because of its location, and that was his only contribution.
