advice to people trying to help someone get a job.
Do NOT come in and ask for an application for them. .
Also, do NOT call and say " my Husband,( or child, or whoever) is looking for a job...are you hiring?
I am not interested in hiring someone who isnt willing to do the legwork to get themselves a job. Also, I require applications to be filled out at my office, in person. This is for low level entry and I need to be sure they can read and write. If you are insulted at this, then obviously you wouldnt be interested in the job!
I write this because friend just told me she went all over town picking up applications for her son. Where was he? Home swimming of course!!!

Our little Irish rose came to us on March 5, 2010
Don't drink the water.

My friend told me she was filling out applications for her 18 year old son! I was floored! I was like, "You are doing what!?" She didn't talk to me for a week.
Maybe that is why he still does not have a job...
I work at a community center and their were TONS of helicopter moms in the center in May trying to get their babies jobs for the summer. I had to RIDE MY BIKE to local stores/restaurants/fast food chains and apply MYSELF.
This is just how things are now-kids are so entitled. Adults looking for a job(s) should know better.
