Should I get a brown bag if I wear a lot of black?

I've fallen in love with a $$$ handbag in a chestnut brown color. I'd pull the trigger right now, but I'm a little concerned it won't go with all the black/grey clothing and shoes I already own. Is it just the right amount of casual chic to not care or should I get a black bag (which is beautiful, but a smidge boring IMO) instead?

  • Black, brown, and grey are all neutral colors. You really can't go wrong with a classic bag in a nuetral color with any shoes. I agree it might go a bit boring if you stick with just all of one color.

Get the bag you love. My guess is that you probably already have gorgeous black bags since you wear a lot of black and grey. What do you wear when you're not at work? Brown bags look great with jeans, chinos, etc...

  • Ditto PP's.  I just got one and I'm really happy.  I wear mostly black as well, but also a lot of grey.  And the brown goes great with the grey.  So far it's gone really great with black and somehow it feels "different" (I always have worn black or grey bags!)

  • Thank you for the encouragement! I just needed a little handholding (this will be my first really nice bag) and I didn't want to regret it, you know?

  • I usually wear black and grey almost exclusively.  I just pulled the trigger on a chestnut brown Coach hobo, it looks great against my grey sweaters.
  • IMO you should get ANYTHING to replace the kindergartner's bag you currently slug around :)

LOL. It IS kind of juvenile, yeah? I'm even thinking about a real shoulder bag, not messenger style. So much change, LOl.
