Streaming Netflix to TV - what device do you use?

We are considering giving up Comcast because we realized that we almost never watch any of the non-network channels, and because we are tired of dealing with Comcast's craptastic customer service.

If we did this, we would switch over to streaming Netflix and are debating what device to purchase to do this.  What do you use, and would you recommend it?

We use an Apple TV to stream Netflix. It works great - definitely recommend. However, I have not been very pleased with Netflix. I have found that most of the movies or TV shows that I search for are not available. My one year subscription was a gift and I get some use out of it but I will not pay beyond my initial year unless the content drastically increases.

We have used and would recommend these for Netflix and Hulu streaming:

• Laptop connected to the TV by HDMI
• Playstation 3
• Wii system
• Our new TV has it integrated in
• Our Blu-ray player has it too

 

If you're looking for something to stream new episodes of shows, I'd recommend Hulu or Boxee instead of Netflix, which has only old seasons.

I have heard good things about Roku players, and they are not that expensive...you can get them from Amazon. I plan to get one eventually, but I just dropped $500 for textbooks for my stepson, so it won't be this month! Right now, I stream Netflix and Hulu Plus content to my iPad, and I definitely prefer Hulu Plus for TV watching. I am going to give up the Netflix streaming when their pricing plans change.

We did the same thing. Comcast be damned!!

 We use a Wii to stream netflix. It works fine, but it doesn't stream in HD. The xbox streams netflix in HD, but I'm pretty sure that you have to have an xbox live subscription. If you don't want to spend the $$ on the gaming systems, I have heard really good things about the Roku.

We have a Wii in one room and a Roku in the other.  The Netflix app on the Wii is kind of slow (and if you're not directly in front of the sensor and it is a little iffy on registering remote movements), but the Roku operates smoothly and has a nice interface.

We use a Wii in our living room, AppleTV (it was a gift) in the kitchen. I'm not a huge fan of Netflix streaming, though (the shows are all old and there's nothing current at all).  If I had my choice, I'd much rather get Hulu on the AppleTV. Annoys me no end that you can't do that...

A Mac Mini - we use it for both Hulu and Netflix (mostly in the browser, although there's media center software out there) and just "drive" from our laptops or iPad via VPN. We also ripped all our DVDs to a 2 TB external hard drive connected to the Mini, so we've got movies on demand (most stuff we buy digitally now via iTunes or Amazon).

We did this as well. We also own an Apple TV and a PS3.

PS3 and TiVoHD. But we have used a Wii as well

We use a Roku.  Sure, I would recommend it.  We don't have any issues with ours.

We have AppleTV and we love it.  the interface works amazingly for us since we have 2 macs and 2 ipods that we can also run through our tv now.

we used the xbox, but now we use the playstation 3,  correct me if im wrong but i think you can do it from your laptop if you have the correct wires to connect it.. ( i wouldnt know which ones those are though )

laptop ->hdmi->tv  but just recently upgraded to a smart tv and am in LOVE with it!

Xbox in one room and the blueray player in the other room. 

With the Xbox, I think you have to have an Xbox live account.  It's not very much though (but can't remember how much).
