South Dakota school going to classes 4 days a week

...to cut the budget spending.

Part of me thinks this is crazy, but as a student I used to want this all the time.

Re: South Dakota school going to classes 4 days a week

  • If they could somehow balance this with smaller class sizes, I could really see it being beneficial for students and faculty, but I'm concerned about working parents.  Juggling child care issues on that (edit:) additional day off could really be a hardship.

  • I was wondering about the parent's too.  Maybe offices in SD will be the next thing that go 4 days a week in order to balance their school system.
  • I find the thought of lengthening Chicago's school weeks laughable.  The kids in Illinois are graduating high school with only 17% of them actually having a high school education, as opposed to Indiana, graduating with 75% of them actually having a HS education.  IL kids have approximately $1500 more funding per child.  Making kids sit through 6 days of not learning isn't going to do anything but increase truancy and misconduct, particularly in the bigger cities.
