I bought a Garmin about 3 years ago. I haven't used it much in the past year and tried to use it a few times recently. It won't charge in the car anymore (vie the ciggarette lighter). If I use my usb port in the car or on my computer it will charge but you can't use it at the same time (I used to be able to with the other car charger). And it doesn't turn on and off easily. It's crapping out on me.
Dh thinks technology is made to crap out after a few years. They sell this model at target now for about 1/2 the price (we bought it new when it was only sold through Garmin).
Would you think it should still be working properly and try to fix it? Or give up?
Re: how long do you expect a gps to last?
I expect electronics to last a long time. There is nothing so complicated in most things that it should just crap out after 3 years.
That being said, if you do get a dud I wouldn't bother trying to fix it. As you said, prices fall so fast on most things you could just pick up another one. I'd still complain to the company about the problem although it's probably out of warranty at this point.
