So DH and I have decided on a baby name. We weren't go to tell anyone, but so far have told a couple of people because we suck at keeping secrets (we told my parents and some of dh's friends).
I really didn't want to tell many more people because I don't want to hear negative feedback, etc. (as it is, my dad already made a crappy comment about it
....why do people feel the need to do that?)
Anyways....so today, a co-worker was asking me about names. I lied and said we hadn't decided yet. Then she randomly says "I like the name ***insert the baby's name here***, but I don't think it sounds very masculine". What the heck?! The name we selected is not super common. What are the odds of her randomly mentioning the name that we selected? I don't care what she said about it, because I don't know her well enough really to care about her opinion....but seriously, how weird is it that she happened to bring up our name?! Plus it's kind of funny I make a point to lie so I don't have to hear feedback, and I end up getting it anyways. LOL
Re: Funny Story about my baby's name
This story really makes me want to guess.
I'm thinking something Western European.
Liam, Malcolm, Colin, Willoughby, Ian, Neil, Seamus, Reece...
I have two friends in separate circles that have chosen the same first and middle name for their sons. The first name is super popular right now so that doesn't surprise me, I just couldn't believe the coincidence of the same fn & mn.
I don't understand why people feel it is acceptable to bash someone's name choice. I have decided that when h and I are expecting we are going to keep the gender and names to ourselves because I don't want to hear people's thoughts.
I'm sure your name is awesome, I am anxious to hear what it is!
DH and I told everyone DD's name as soon as we found it she was a girl. You're going to hear all the comments anyway, might as well get it over with before the kid is born. And actually, we didn't hear hardly anything one way or the other about DD's name. We were unequivocal when we told people the name and I think that discouraged people from thinking they could offer an opinion about it!
Reece was actually my #1 choice for a name, but dh wasn't having it.
this reminded me of a funny non-masculine coincidence - in college my dad knew a Kim and Ashley who were roommates. Both men.
DH and I are horrible at keeping secrets so I'm surprised we haven't spilled the beans yet (we decided imediately after our anatomy scan and haven't changed our mind yet). I knew we would keep it a secret pretty much right off when we shared a few of the names we couldn't agree on and why we didn't like them... and then my mom started using those names to refer to the baby because she liked some of them and decided we should pick one of them anyway.
And... now I need to know what you picked.
I can?t imagine how frustrating that is! So cool you both decided on one you liked!!
We have already picked our names and our boy name is gaining popularity, but is overall a very traditional old name that I think many people wouldn?t like?out of all the thousands of boy names out there?my only cousin on my mom?s side has chosen that name for their boy. I couldn?t believe it! We are still naming ours the same if we have a boy though; I love it too much to change it.
