S/O- if you were to move...

So a spin off from the posts below: if you were going to move out of AZ where would you move and why?

Re: S/O- if you were to move...

  • Portland, OR (domestic) or Lucerene, Switzerland. I LOVE Portland! It was my fave place to visit for work. Small town feel, beautiful weather, beautiful scenery. Lucerene because I'll be frank I worry about the state of this Country so feel I need an international plan B. I visited Lucerene for a week after HS and loved it! The mountains were beautiful and the culture/way of life was laid back, family oriented, and just awesome!
  • I would follow you to Portland Jenn!!  I think growing up in AZ has made me love the rain so much.  I'm sure it would be different if I lived there, but it's just beautiful there!  My husband's twin sister lives there too.

If we could afford it and if my husband had work there, I wouldn't mind living in California.  Being close to Disneyland would be awesome.  :)  My husband would NEVER go for that though.  Like never.  haha

Also, if I could somehow invent a way to have dual lives that I could jump back and forth between, I would probably go back in time and go back to Disney World after college to have a career there.  I don't regret not going because I love my life and my family so much, but sometimes I wish I could live out both lives (if that makes any sense?).

  • Our short list -

Back to Canada.  We'd love to move back to the area I'm from, but we're pretty open to any of the major areas IF the Hubs could get a job.

Seattle.  I love the rain, and the temperate climate.  Love love love how the city is very green/crunchy friendly.

Virgina.  I just have a random fascination with Virgina.  No idea why.  It seems nice and it's closer to my east coast family.

Overall, we're pretty set on moving to Seattle or somewhere out east once DH finished his PhD.  His field is very specialized so we only consider places that are realistic job-wise.

  • If money were no object and employment was a given, I'd live anywhere on the west coast.  Southern California, Portland or Seattle are tops.  We lived on the east coast for five years and I was very unimpressed overall for several reasons.  I prefer so much about the western part of the US.
  • Jenn, you know my answer already. Portland, OR! It?s just beautiful and I love the rain! People are very nice and friendly. And Voodoo Dounts is there, lol. But serious, it?s just beautiful.

I'd love to live in Portland, just for the food!  I always see it on FN.  Voodoo Donut and all those food trucks.  YUM!

But my heart will always belong to CT, and I'm working on getting our family back there one day for good.  So far, I've gotten Casey to agree to FL (when we retire).  Random, I know, but its a start!

  • We plan to buy land in Tennessee (outside Nashville) and build a home a some point in the future.  Phillip lived in TN for several years growing up and fell in love with the area and people.  I have visited several times and also love the area and people.

Portland was nice, but I waited in line for two hours to get my Voodoo Donut and it was really dry.  Big disappointment for me, but I've heard from so many others who love it.

Wow 2 hrs? Was it at the original place? What kind was it? I think I've waited 15 mins my first time I was there and all other times was like 5 mins. I need to go back though, I miss them and PDX

  • If the $$ and job were there, we'd move back to New England but keep a house here as well. I don't like the freezing cold 6 months a year there, but home is where the heart is....

Realistically.... We are kind of sort of pushing for a transfer to Boca Raton, FL. I'll get my heat (and the sucky humidity) and sunshine and my ocean. Yeah, I'll have to deal with hurricane's and such but it is what it is...  Carl's very best friends live out there and it would be a great oppertunity for us...

  • I would love to live in North Carolina someday.  Also, I've never been but I've heard so many good things about Colorado.
  • It was our 5 year plan to move to SoCal, but since we just bought a new house that timeline got pushed. Hopefully before DS is in junior high or high school, otherwise we'll wait until all kids are off to college.  But it WILL happen someday!!!  :)

  • We're pretty happy here, but I would move back to Seattle if I could... Mostly to be with my family, but it is so pretty there!

Before we moved here, we kicked around the idea of moving to Portland or St. Louis, but honestly, I don't see us moving anywhere anytime soon.

  • Im not in Phx anymore, but I want to play (and Vegas is similar enough to Phx).  If money were no object I would move back home to the Bay Area, I love it there, my parents still live there, but I don't have a Million $+ to spend on a house in the areas I would want to live.  More realistic...DH and I want to move to the Pacific Northwest and hopefully will in the next few year.  Seattle area would be best (I could transfer for work that way, our parent company is there) or Portland are the two areas we are looking at!

  • We plan to move back East in the next 5ish years...nobody knows this yet. And it's not definite but we plan to seriously start looking once DH is done with school. I'd LOVE to live in NC. I wanted to move there before we moved here but DH said no and now he's on board with me! YAY!

  • Lol add another one to the Pacific Northwest group (Portland / Seattle).  I think it's kind of funny how many Arizonans here would love to go somewhere green and rainy.  Guess we need a change huh?

As for the Voodoo Donuts, I'm sorry that Buttercup had a disappointing experience.  DH brought some back when he went on quick trip up there and they were delish.  Bacon Maple Bar = yummy.  Hmmm this isn't helping my week long donut craving.

  • Back to Seattle - Combination of a great city with awesome parks, outdoor activities and WATER. Winters can be rough, but summers there are amazing. Also super family-friendly.

San Francisco (Only if money was no object hah) - Love the city, the wine country being close, and having so much family there.

  • My FI and I are actually looking into possibly moving within the next year or two.  If money were no object, we'd move to Hawaii.  FI has actually gotten quite a few calls for jobs on Oahu, but the pay isn't even as much as he makes here and the cost of living is double, so it's not likely.  We would love to live in Kona (the cost of living is a lot less on the BI), but he'd have to find a work from home job for that one.

Our second choice is Florida.  We are looking at possibly the Tampa or Ft Lauderdale areas.  We'll see though, we can't exactly sell our house here yet and I'm not 100% comfortable with leasing it out, so that's a big IF factor for us.
