My husband and I are going to TN the first week in Nov. for 9 days to celebrate our first anniversary. We haven't made any plans. The only thing we have reservations for is whitewater rafting on the Ocoee the first day we are there and camping in the great smokey mtns. He wants to do everything spur of the moment but I'm extremely organized and like to plan things. So I'm just trying to make a list of great places to stay (that take last minute reservations), things to do, restaurants, etc. We intend to go to Chattanooga, Gatlinburg, Knoxville, Nashville, the Memphis. But we may end up staying more of the eastern side of the state, it just depends on what we want to see/do in that area. I've read the past post about visiting TN. Does anyone have any other recommendations on places to stay that we can book at the last minute (like the day of)? I really want to stay in a cabin in the mountains and do some sort of waterfall tour.
Re: Touring TN
West TN does not have much besides Memphis unless you are very outdoorsy. I used to do a ton of spelunking out there....and fishing!?
I think Chattanooga has more to see than the others. Nashville is fun, and there are some great spots....but Chattanooga has the aquarium, Rock City, the Choo-Choo, the Riverfront, Coolidge Park....it's a beautiful city nestled in a valley.
I've never really done any of the tourist stuff in Nashville. I hear the Nash-Trash tour is fun. I love to catch live music....and that is what I typically do. Cheekwood Botanical Gardens is gorgeous....but not really the time of year to go. A lot of people like to shop around Green Hills. I never go over that way...so I can't tell you about all that!?
This time of year is the time to drive through the mountains in East TN & Chattanooga. Point Park has a great view & some great hiking trails that are not too advanced. Ruby Falls is not really worth going to.?
Oh...and I must ask.....judging from your name on here, you MUST be an LSU fan, am I right?!?
I'm a huge LSU fan! Geaux Tigers! There are not many LSU fans in TN....I get so many dirty looks! ?
I'm in Knoxville and I'll say that unless you have very warm sleeping bags I'd opt for the cabin over camping since it's been getting down into the 30's at night here the past week.
When you're in east TN you can stop and see Dollywood if you want to go to an amusement park. There is also quite a bit of hiking still available that would be fun.
That is awesome! I am jealous!
I was telling my DH that we probably don't need to be in the same house this weekend....
?I'm a HUGE LSU fan....and he is a HUGE Dawgs fan! It depends on what GA team shows up, but we should win this one!??
