Clicky Poll: Natural disasters

Re: Clicky Poll: Natural disasters

  • Hurricanes, fo sho.

  • I'll take a hurricane over any of the other options.

  • I think this is one of those surveys where the answer would drastically change depending on which local board you are polling. I think people tend to be most comfortable with what they're used to. My CA friends don't even bat an eye at earthquakes, but even a dramatic lightening/wind/thunderstorm scares them.

  • Definitely, Christie!  I think people go with what they know.  I chose earthquakes. =)
  • Blizzards seem the most mild out of those, and it would be awesome to be snowed in from work on the regular, but that requires me to live somewhere cold so No thanks.

Hell no to earthquakes... those things gave me nightmares. Happy to be away from them.

I'm still hoping for a hurricane to come our way... not one that will damage property, but maybe close work for the day. I love stormy weather.

The other 3 on the list can seriously kill you, so those are out. My vote was for hurricane.

  • I approached it from the perspective of what I thought would cause the least damage so I went with blizzards.

Blizzard cabin fever is the WORST.

  • I agree that people will choose what they know. My thought process was you can prepare, plan and evacuate for a hurricane. Yes, it might destroy your home but that could happen with any of the disasters. Also, if I'm going to be without power I would rather it be during the summer and not while buried under a ton of snow.

  • Blizzard damage is pretty bad--it can rival hurricane damage. I had some friends in NH go without power for several weeks last winter.

I always tell people that ask, you'll never have to dig out of a hurricane.

I figured you must have been the one earthquake vote.  ;) I guess I should warm up to the idea of them if my plan is to move us out there.

  • Blizzards weren't even an option for me.  That'd mean I was living in an area that was blizzard-prone = harsh/cold winters as is, regardless of blizzard activity.

I totally agree.  Scraping ice off of cars, shoveling snow... ugh.

  • I picked hurricane for the reasons everyone else said. At least I know how to handle that sh!t.
  • I said blizzard... surprise!!

And I don't understand what is meant by blizzard cabin fever. Blizzard = AWESOME ENDLESS FUN!

  • I voted hurricane, but that is because that is what I know. Blizzard is about equal with Tornado, IMO.
