Is the Metro running?

Buses running? What is traffic like? Lots of offices dismissed people early.

Re: Is the Metro running?

  • Metro is only running 15 miles per hour and horrible gridlock is being predicted.  News pictures show that traffic is horrible.

    Metro Earthquake Update 2
    Issued 3:25 p.m.

    Rail

    • All Metrorail trains will continue to operate at 15 mph until further notice as Metro personnel perform track inspections of the entire rail system.
    • Customers should expect significant delays on Metrorail until further notice due to the reduced operating speed.
    • The speed restriction is likely to remain in place for several hours and will likely affect the evening commute.
    • At Union Station, the Massachusetts Avenue entrance has been closed.  Customers should usea the First Street entrance instead.

    Bus

    • All Metrobus routes are operating with delays due to traffic signal outages and evacuating traffic.

    Additional information will follow.

  • Man, I guess for once it's a good thing my boss doesn't believe in closing the office in situations like this?

  • I work for a fed agency and we got to leave early. Some of us left and went to the bar (walked to Cantina Marina). It was a mess because tons of other people had the same idea. So we walked to Waterfront Metro - traffic was a mess but we got a train no problem. I left the bar at around 6:30 and walked to Metro Center. Had to wait over 15 min for a train and then once I got on it took almost 40 minutes to get to EFC. My husband was on the same train (different car) and said it took him an hour and 15 minutes between waiting for a train and getting off the train (he went L'Enfant to EFC). The 15 MPH isn't helping.
