Crochet GTG Poll

For those who were interested in wanting to do a crochet GTG I would be available to do this either any time on a Friday or Saturday.  Is that something that would work for most of you ladies?  If so, we can try and figure out a date that is good for the majority of you.

Also, I live in Howell and am more than willing to have all of you ladied to my house for this event, but I know it would be a drive for some of you.  If anyone can think of a more central location where we could hold a GTG like this I would be open to suggestions.

Re: Crochet GTG Poll

  • Friday would work for me as long as it was after 5:30 (or if it didn't matter if I came late)  any time on Saturday would work.  I don't mind driving to Howell, but could we do it somewhere like a Panera or Starbucks or something and take over a section of the seating area?  I"m not sure how many of us there would be.  Other than next week and Sept 16, any Friday or Saturday really would work for me if I have some notice.

  • I am not much help because as everyone tells me I can't decide on anything, but Friday nights after work would work, and so would Saturdays, as long as I had enough time to get a babysitter..

Could we meet up at like Panara or Starbucks? Maybe in the Novi area. I wouldn't mind driving out to Howell but only on a Saturday, my grandparents used to live out there and it's been almost 10 years since I have been there. It would be nice to look around again. Do they still do the Melon festival? (I think that is what it was called)

Melon Festival was this past weekend.  I really like living out here, because they do a lot of community activities.  In June they have the Michigan Balloon Challege (a big hot air balloon festival).  When the last Harry Potter book came out they had a big Harry Potter party down town and turned it into Diagon Alley/Hogsmead, renaming all the streets and having the wand shop and what not.

  • I wouldnt mind doing it at the Panera in Novi.  Maybe on a Saturday in the early afternoon, say 1 or 2.  We could meet and have a late lunch then do some crocheting.  Would they mind if we took over a section of their place do you think?  I know they have that bigger table that seats 8.

When we meet with our wedding photographer, we met her there and took over that bigger table and she had brought several work samples and what not.  Then she had another client there right after us and they didnt seem to mind that we were meeting there and not eating.

  • I'd be more likely to make it on Saturday afternoon than Friday.  I'd have to check w/ DH to make sure he hasn't made any plans for us.  Novi is good for me.  What would we be doing about supplies?  I've never really done any of this, so I don't know how to go about picking up materials.

  • Panera in Novi would work for me too on a Saturday afternoon. I don't think they'd mind if we took over an area.  I've seen study groups do it, and I've been there for other meetings with groups and stuff.  I think it would be ok.

thanks Jennicic - supplies was going to be my next question - are we all picking our own projects/materials/etc - or is there a specific project/pattern we all are going to be working on and we just bring our own yarn and needles as required?  not sure what's easier for you to teach?

  • That was going to be my next question to you ladies.  I can either instruct you ladies what to get or I can pick up supplies for everyone and you ladies and pay me back.  You be looking at needing a hook and a skein of yarn (both of which will be decided on once we pick a project as far as what size hook and what kind of yarn you need).  Im perfectly find with picking up the supplies to bring and having you ladies bring cash to the meeting.  Supplies will be between $5 and $10, depending on the type of yarn and if its on sale.  Let me know your thoughts.

  • Either way works for me!  though depending on what we pick I do already own some hooks and a bunch of random yarn.
  • Either way is good for me.  Although, I really don't know what I'm doing, so you'd have to give me really good instructions on what to pick up.  I think it might be better for you to just tell us what to get, just in case some people don't show up, I wouldn't want you getting stiffed.

Lol.  Good point.  I suppose I was trusting all you ladies who end up saying you will come once we pick a date to actually come!  Hehe.

What would you ladies be interested in learning to make for a first project?  I believe Ill be teaching most of you from scratch (no experience), so I think it is best to start with something easy, like a simple scarf or washcloth/pot holder or even an easy baby blanket.

For you ladies who have some experience but what to learn more advance stuff, Im more then willing to offer you help if there are some projects you want to make but need asistance with, you could bring those.

I agree maybe just tell us what we need.  At some point I tried to teach myself with a "how to for dummies book" so I think I may have some needles at home but who knows if I will ever find them!

  • I didn't think about the getting stiffed part if people don't show up - I'm ok with buying supplies myself in adavnced - Michael's coupons are always handy!
  • I'd be interested in coming as well!! Saturday afternoon would work fine for me, although so would a Friday if that's what it comes to.  My Mom has "tinkered" with crocheting before so I know she'd probably have the supplies that I'd need.  Thanks for putting this all together!
