Whatever Wednesday (I like alliteration!)
I have a friend who is a dyed in the wool Democrat. I have no problem with that. However, her daughter applied for a teaching position in a local urban school district and she is very upset about it because she thinks her daughter is a better teacher and that she shouldn't have to teach "those kids" in order to have a job. I'm just a little shocked and really don't understand why someone with her political beliefs would say something like that.
Re: Whatever Wednesday (I like alliteration!)
There are bigots in every party. I see why you'd be surprised, but I've also seen the side of it where dyed-in-the-wool Democrats support the welfare system because they TRULY (like, were willing to say it out loud, in public) believe the welfare system is the way that white people take care of people who have the genetic disadvantage of not being white, and therefore will never make anything of themselves. Kiiiiind of makes me feel a bit like punching someone, but it's true.
WHEW! Let's come out with the heavy hitters first thing!
In the past few weeks, I have been fretting that we should have made plans for a beach vacation instead of Vegas (especially following Julie's Dominican and Chelsea's Hawaiian trips) .....but now with that giant hurricane blob out there I'm SO glad we did not.
Although, in light of the past two days.... going really close to a gargantuan fault line may not have been the best of options either. ;-)
Oh well, Viva!
VEGAS. Oh lord, you're going to have so much fun. I love me some Vegas.
I just had a leftover blueberry muffin for breakfast, and it was kind of dry, and really just not satisfying
Also, here lately I've been waking up about 45 minutes early, every morning. It's really annoying. I always think I should get up, but then when it comes down to it, I can't - I just toss and turn the rest of the time feeling annoyed, but can't make myself get out of bed.

We will be there Friday-Tuesday!
I am so jealous - I hope you get great flights and have a wonderful time!
And I am now officially jealous of everyone's Vegas trips. I still want to go and I'm still trying to talk DH into it for my 30th bday. We shall see! Hope y'all have fun in Vegas!!
A metric ton of Whatevers:
I am having a girl's brunch/pow-wow on Sept. 10th to plan our Vegas trip. Have fun girls! Woo hoo!
This morning no one showed up at my office until after 9am. Since I got here at 8, not knowing that and having no key to get in, I went to the car wash. I went to the Big Green Machine and they gave me a discout for having a car that matches their "decor." LOL.
I heard on the radio this morning that experts expect a boom of babies born in the NE nine months from now as the "safe stress" caused by the earthquakes make people want to do it. Yesterday was my bingo day for baby making (TMI!), so if I get pregnant this month, I'm totally claiming the earthquake.
I have to make a giant cake and lots of cupcakes this Friday but they are going to be too cute, so it's worth it:
ETA: Not my cakes. Just a couple of the design basis ideas.
Andplusalsofinally -- I got a new HRM/GPS watch!! I got the Garmin 405, it arrives tomorrow and I am super excited about it. If I am for real going to start training for a half (which I am seriously, seriously thinking about) this watch is going to become my best friend ever.
Bio Good Times
Fingers crossed for a "bingo"

That's funny ... we have a Vegas trip coming up in the next few weeks (to celebrate my 28th b-day). It'll be my first time ever in Vegas, and I've wanted to go for the last couple of years, and we've had this trip booked since the spring. But instead of being excited about it, I've been researching last-minute getaway trips to the beach for the last couple of weeks, and a little jealous that my ILs are all in Florida right now.
It's even weirder because I'm generally very anti-beach (I burn easily in the sun, hate getting in a swimsuit, would rather walk around than lay in the sun, etc) but all the sudden all I can think about is a carribean vacation.
ETA: Those flower cupcakes are the cutest thing I've ever seen.
If I was in Vegas for five days, I would be broke as a joke!!!!
Leslie, Ditto to fingers crossed! You totally make claim to the earthquakes! HAHA
Lauren, what did you get for your bday?
Oh man, I'm so excited for all of you going to Vegas! I've never been, so have some extra fun for me.
I got to work much earlier than normal this morning, which means I'll get to leave much earlier than normal, which means: nap time this afternoon! I'm more excited about this than I should be.
Fingers and toes crossed, Leslie!
The Vegas Nesties should totally get together, even if it's just for 5 minutes in front of the Bellagio fountain. Because, I mean, how cool!
I'm annoyed with Mack. We have the next 8 days essentially "off" from work. I'll still need to answer emails and be available and all that, but everything we've shot has been completed and mailed. I want to paint and replace the carpet in our bedroom. He wants to do outside projects. OUTSIDE? Have you BEEN outside? It's a billion degrees still! I won't do it. But I can't do the inside stuff by myself, with a baby. Grrrrrrrr.
Lauren, what trip are you going on?
I have totally planned our Vegas trip. So much so that I don't have anything left to plan. Boo. I can't wait either and can't wait to hear about Tiffany's when she gets back. I lamented not going to the beach at first too but now I am excited.
Leslie, I was thinking of asking for a Bodybug or something for Christmas. I have no idea what is the best one though.

Just do it!
This made me laugh. This is the kind of stuff I do to my DH all the time.
Stephie - It depends on what you want in a HRM... Are you looking for something to track calories while you workout? Or do you want something that will track all calories, all day? The only downfall to Bodybugg for me is the monthly fee and there are other similar options without the fee. I know Anna has a Bodybugg and loves it.
Cant wait to see pics of the Vegas vacations. Matt and I have already decided our next one will be to the Dominican but I know its a long ways away.
Leslie those cupcakes are ADORABLE, also you will have to let me know how you like the 405. I book marked both the 405 and the 305 and cant decide between them. A lot of reviews say that the bezel is bad and also that sweat locks it up so I am curious what you think. I would prefer the 405 as its much smaller but the 305 seems like the tried and true version.
Chelsea, Mack is crazy for wanting to work outside!
Monthly fee? Oh forget that. I just want to buy something and be done. I would like to see both heart rate and calories but I would only wear it during my workouts.

FWIW, if you buy a year-long subscription, it comes out to less than $7 a month. I enjoy it because there's all kinds of charts and graphs, and I get to see my calorie burn 24/7. However, it's not really worth it (to me) to just wear it during work outs. It also doesn't track heart rate. But it is the most accurate calorie reading you can get outside of a lab.
Look into the Polar HRM watches. Check Amazon for reviews to get a good idea of which are well loved. They are the best for monitoring HR/calories during workouts and a lot of gym machines are compatable with them, so you can even sync them up if you feel so inclined. The Garmin watches have built in GPS, so they are more for running.
Also check into the Fitbit - it works very similarly to a Bodybugg but doesn't have a monthly fee.
BL - I looked into Garmins for hours a couple of weeks ago comparing the 305,405, 405cx and the 110. I decided on the 405 in the end due to some features I know I will really like for longer race training. I also read the issues about the sweat and bezel, but found a lot of good reviews that said that issue was overblown and simply locking the bezel once the sattelites locked in solved the issue people complained about. This does mean you can not toggle through screens while running, but the watch shows you four stats on one screen, so unless you just really need to know more than that you will be fine.
One thing to note though, it that the 405 is truly a running watch and does not have heart rate based calorie tracking. If you are doing cross training you will not be able to see calories burned, you will have to get the 405cx for that, which is the best of both worlds but also $50 more. The 405 will keep track of heart rate, so if you were really curious you could always plug it in to an online calculator, but I have found that the algorithm used for heart rate based calories is extremely similar to the expenditure formula used by MyFitnessPal, so I wasn't willing to spend the extra $50.
I just spent the morning reading about half marathon training, TTC and halfs, pregnancy and halfs etc. I have decided and I am putting it here so I can't go back:
If I do not get pregnant this cycle I am going to train for the Cowtown Half. I will train as hard as I can and if I get pregnant I will make a decision then about sticking with the half or reducing to the 10k or 5k. I am scared to death but also really excited!
On another note -- I paused before posting this here due to our past "visitors" and will remain vague because of that:
A wedding vendor asked me for advice on something related to my field of experience, so I gave her some advice and then ended up hooking her up with one of my friends who runs a business that offered a service she needed. My friend cut her a serious deal (like 50% off) and she balked at the price. She is now asking me a lot of questions and I am getting a little eye-rolly because she is asking things that are specific to her project and would involve me calling a third party to find out. I usually charge $$$ when I do this service for others. I kind of feel like I don't really owe her anything since the wedding service offered was paid at full price and I only met with her the few times to deal with that service, so I don't really know her...but I am also the most non-confrontational person EVER...argh.
Dear sweet Jesus, help this remain here on the Nest, I can not deal with the fall out.
That's it. I'm hitting Twitter now.
