Whine Wednesday

Re: Whine Wednesday

  • I only have a week and a half left of summer vacation.  Where did the summer go?  I went into work yesterday to start setting up my room and I'm not even excited about going back.  Last summer I went to 4 conferences and I was SO excited to go back and implement the new things I learned.  This summer I went to 2 conferences and while I'm excited to bring some new stuff into the classroom again this year, I'm not excited to go back because of my lousy schedule.  I'm going to need a lot of mental health days to get through the year and maybe a few drinks at night to calm my nerves.  I just really hope this school year flies by as fast as the summer did.
  • I want it to be sunny everyday until Labor Day (well next Wednesday and Thursday I don't care since we have staff days). I want to spend as much time in the sun in my pool.  It looks like some rain in the forecast :(

  • I'm still a little freaked out after the earthquake here yesterday. We are about an hour from the epicenter and holy sh!t it was violent. It lasted a long time and got pretty violent. We didn't have anything break but things fell off shelves, etc. I was here alone and really frightened. Living by DC I thought it could have been a terrorist attack before it lasted so long. All phones were down after and I couldn't get a hold of my husband (who works in a high rise building) for about an hour and a half.
  • I am so sick of this housing market. We really want to sell our old house.

Oh, and the ILs are coming on Sunday for dinner. I love 'em but really just wanted a day to sleep in and relax with DH. I feel like we've just been running and running.

I assume he was ok?  I heard that it didn't do much damage being it was only a 5.9.  I guess it could have been much worse.  We felt it up here in Albany, well some of us anyway.  I was driving so I didn't feel a thing.  The last EQ we had up here I was sleeping so I didn't feel that one either.  Guess the science teacher misses all the earthquakes.  Anyway, I hope you and your family are all ok.

Yes he was fine. :) Just with the cell service down, it was scary not to be able to get a hold of someone.

There was some damage to foundations of buildings, Washington Monument, etc. Some geologists have said we are very lucky because a 5.9 can actually be a lot worse on the east coast vs. west due to our plates (not sure the full details honestly). Either way - no injuries (other than minor) which is a blessing!

  • The East Coast doesn't get as many earthquakes so I would assume we are less prepared than the West Coast.  I'm not sure if that's it or not but it would be my guess.

I'm glad to hear everyone is ok! :)
