What to do with old CDs?

DH and I don't agree on this.  I'm pretty sure most of the music is on iTunes, though we'll check.

I think once it is, we should toss them.  We don't have the cases, so I really can't sell them.  And we're not music buffs in that we need to keep the original file (since iTunes usually alters the file).

But he thinks he needs to hang on to them...just in case.  In case of what, I have no idea.

Re: What to do with old CDs?

  • As long as you backup your computer, I agree with tossing the physical CD's.  I would post them to Craigslist.  I'm sure someone would be more than happy to take the lot of CD's off your hands.

  • They were buying some at 1/2price books the other day.  I'd try something like that first to get even just a little bit of $$ before tossing.

I don't know if HPB will take them without the cases...

I'll also try CL.  I can sort them into the genre before posting.

  • You can donate them to your local library. If they can't use them in the inventory then the friends of the library group can sell them to raise money to buy the inventory they do need.

  • Ikea also has CD boxes. You can pack a ton of them in one box. With or without cases.

  • I don't know where this idea came from, but you could totally make some interesting art out of some of them.  If you did it label up in a frame...I can so picture this, but can't describe it well... it would be like displaying your musical tastes and if its ecletic and spreads a variety of genres, it would be even cooler.  Something fun to hang in a gameroom or media room.  It would be a conversation piece.

  • If you want to sell them, I might be interested depending on the type(s) of music.  My honey is a music freak, so he would be beyond thrilled.  If you're interested in unloading them, let me know!  detroitbound2011 at gmail dot com
