I am kind of embarrassed, since I took CERT training a few years back and also wrote an emergency preparedness curriculum for kids, but how do you all manage your emergency kits/supplies?
I used to keep things in a rubbermaid tote, but then realized that meds and food expired and I needed cash to pay a tree guy so I pillaged the emergency cash. I had thrown a pack of diapers in back in January, but they were NB size and he's now in size 3's. So now it's pretty threadbare.
I can definitely look at lists and restock, but it seems like a waste if things just spoil again.
Do you have a schedule for rotating supplies out of the kit into your regular supplies? Do you wait and pack things before major storms are predicted? Especially now that we have a baby, I feel like we need to be better about this.
Re: s/o emergency kit
because storms/weather events usually have several days warning here, I don't bother with an emergency kit (i would if I lived back in FL though...stores run out of things FAST there).
in case of event w/ no forewarning, we have enough pantry food on hand to for probably 3-4 days at any given time. there would be some strange meals, but we could get by. I do keep a stash of candles & lighters on hand, though. water may be an issue, but i guess i'm willing to risk it...you can always refill containers/fill tubs with water during the event if necessary.
i am in awe of mrsh's planning!
