Anti-Aging stuff

OK, I was listening to Dr. Oz the other day (he TOTALLY freaks me out) and he was talking about how women in their 30's need to be preventative and start using anti-aging stuff.  I kinda figured that for now (I'm 31) I can go with the cheapy drugstore stuff, and wait for the more expensive stuff when I'm closer to 40.  What do you guys use?  I have some fine lines on my forehead that are bothering me.

Re: Anti-Aging stuff

  • I'm in my 20's and I use Eminence Organics blueberry soy repairing mask. I have dull skin and some fine lines. It helps a lot. I also use their Pumpkin enzyme peel once a week, and tomato c-gel for my oily tzone. I have pretty much flawless skin, with the occasional hormonal breakout.

Keep your skin hydrated. Look for products with Hydrolouronic Acid ( I may be misspelling that ). Also, drink a lot of water, because your skin begins from within and using topical creams wont repair what has already been done..

  • Soap and water followed by lotion (maybe with spf if I'm going out.)  I can't phantom using that much product.  I also don't wear make-up that often.

Not saying it's bad or wrong for anyone who does.  It's just not me.

I'm bad when it comes to products, skin or hair. Lol.

What kind of soap & lotion do you use?

Nah.  I really try to use stuff and just give up and go back to the old S&W

    Dove soap sensitive skin.

    For lotion-

no spf I really like the Dial NutriSkin.  It is not oily in any way which is so good for me because my skin gets oily fast.

spf- I use the Aveeno Positively Radiant daily moisturizer (spf 30).  I have to remember not to get it too close to my eyes though.  spf and my eyeballs just don't get along but it seems to work well.

I need someone to give me make-up lessons.  I've got a few big events coming up and I suck because I rarely wear more than powder.

Lol @ the spf & eyeballs.

Do you own makeup? Are you wanting to learnwhat looks best on you, and then buy makeup? What do you want to learn?  Have you tried going to makeup counters? Do you watch online tutorials? I'm a HUGE makeup fan, I do a full face every.single.day.

& if your skin routine works for your skin, then stick to it. Some people can use soap, others need treatments. Thats really cool that you can just use lotion, I would be able to fry bacon on my grease face. Lols.

  • Drinking plenty of water each day will do much more for your skin than any anti-aging moisturizer or lotion or mask, in my opinion. I think that is the single most important thing you can do for the long-term health of your skin, along with using SPF. I'm 41, and I'd go back and do things much differently if I could, and not take my soft, wrinkle-free skin for granted.

For cleansing and daily care, I cleanse with Cetaphil, and use Neutrogena Moisture with SPF 15. I also use a Neutrogena night cream and an Oil of Olay eye cream.  (But that's not really to prevent aging--it's to make my skin look better from years of neglect!)

  • it is not cheap, but i use Murad resurfacing peel.  worth.every.penny.  makes my skin looks so much better - even better than 10 years ago.  (i'm going to refrain from giving my age, but i'm closer to 40 than you are...)

and a good moisturizer, of course.  i use drug-store stuff for that.

but i can't find a cheap drugstore equivalent of the murad stuff, so i buy it.  and it lasts quite a long time - a 12-pack will last me 4-6 months, depending on how often i use it.  (i aim for 1-2 times a week)

  • Cetaphil, per my derm's rec

  • I don't use anti aging stuff but I do drink a TON of water.  I use Origin's checks and balances cleanser and their Balanced Diet moisturizer (though I may switch to one with an SPF when I am out of this stuff.

  • Dove soap, a wascloth and Oil or Olay face lotion all over my face, neck and chest (I have seen way too many middle aged women with the chest wrinkles in between the boobs, so in my mind the lotion should help with that...and not being a slave to the sun). Otherwise, I drink lots of water and have oily skin, which I have been told helps with keeping the wrinkles away.

My grandma slathers vaseline on her face every night. I must say for 81, she looks pretty good!

  • I recently started using an eye cream from Origins as a preventative measure.  I love it, it's very cool & refreshing, even DH has used it a few times b/c it feels so good.

Other than that, lots of water & I never leave the house without SPF.

  • I wash with Cetaphil.  For years I used anything and everything that was for oily skin/acne-prone skin.  Cetaphil is so much cheaper and my skin actually pumps out less oil than when I use "oily skin" products (but I am also the freak that does not dry out with Retin-A, my skin actually gets a little more oily).

Cetaphil with my Clarisonic and Retin-A at night (the lowest % there is.  I think it is 0.0001% or something crazy like that.  Any higher and the oil starts getting worse). I use the Retin-A every other to every 3rd night.  On nights I don't use it I use Clinique Total Turnaround cream.

For daytime, I use either the Mary Kay lotion (no spf) or Neutrogena liquid SPF 50 face sunblock.

And, as I am seeing this week, not eating and drinking like crap helps a lot.  I went to Chicago for 3 days last weekend and pretended like I was 22 again, and even though I washed my face each night my skin looks like absolute crap this week.  It is getting better as of today, but you can really tell the effects of just 3 days.
