5k this fall

Looking to do a 5k this fall, has anyone done these races? Signed up for any others????

Gloucester would be nice, not sure I can do a 10k in less then a month. I actually hate running and figure that if i sign up for a race every so often it will encourage me to run.

    I actually hate running...

This is me so I'm no help, haha!  I don't think we have very many runners on the board.  Good luck with whichever race you choose, though!

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I haven't done any of these but the Plymouth course looks relatively flat from what I can tell.  At least the last mile will be downhill/flat.  The LunaChix and Komen ones look like bigger events that might have a looping course or something.  I can't find any course maps but I would guess they are pretty flat too since they are in Boston/Cambridge.

I love signing up for races for motivation.  I am trying to get the courage to do a 10k even though my max distance I have ever run is 5 miles.  Once I am running in a race I get competitive and am able to keep up a much faster pace than I do when jogging on my own.  I hate letting the old people pass me.

  • I am running the Samaritans 5k in October (October 1, I believe).  I also signed by for the Battlegreen 10k in Lexington on November 6th.  I looked into the Run to the Rock- it seemed pretty cool!

I HATED running until I did C25k (couch to 5k) a few months ago.  I did my first 5k in July and loved it.  After my 5k, I kind of got lazy, which is why I signed up for the 2 above races- I need the motivation!

  • thank you for those 2 suggestions!

I have put on 5-8 lbs over what is my 'feel good weight' (not my wedding weight from 4 years ago I have no idea how I actually weighed that amount in 2007!) and i just cant lose it, I havent purchased a pair of pants/shorts in over 18 months thinking that I'll lose the weight. I enjoy classes at the gym, ride my bike or walk everywhere since I recently moved to Boston but think that  we have been eating out too much trying lots of new places.

Regardless I just need more cardio in my life.

This is me too. I ran my first 5k back in May and kept saying I wanted to sign up for more throughout the summer...well, summer is almost over and I haven't done another one! Definitely in the spring though - in my defense I did end up getting shin splints after the race...that basically fueled my lack of running since.
