Tell me about your canceled flight experience...
I'm currently in Maine and planned to fly back on Sunday but now this Irene business is likely to cancel my flight. Who's had to deal with cancelled flights before? Is it a mess? I'm flying Southwest.
Re: Tell me about your canceled flight experience...
The blizzard in Dec 2009 delayed my return home from my honeymoon (direct from San Juan to Philly). Our US Air flights were delayed for hours. We did end up taking off but had to have an emergency landing in Charlotte, NC due do the runways in Philly not being cleared enough for landing. We had trouble booking a flight home from the Charlotte airport that night but eventually got on one for the next day that was added due to the delays. We had to fork out money for a hotel room for the night.
The next day, it was an absolute MESS. The airport was so beyond crowded (approx 1,000 people at the US Air desks alone) Our luggage was lost because it had the tags from the original flight. We couldn't print our boarding passes at a kiosk because the flight was new and not in their system. The only reason we were able to make our flight was through the kindness of strangers. DH managed to finangle his way into a first class line and strong arm a manager into printing our boarding passes on a wing and a prayer. Then some very nice folks in the security line who my hubs was talking to shouted out "these kids have 15 minutes to make their flight! who wants to let them jump the line" and everybody did.
I realize that my story is one in a million probably, but for us, everything that could go wrong, DID. So try to have some contingency plans in place.
PS - the best part about all of this was that it was 3 days before Christmas
I'm on hold right now with the airline to find this out. How's the weather looking for Saturday there?
this is what i would try. they are usually good and want to get you out on an earlier flight so they don't have to deal with you later. it helps you and the airline. good luck!
I hate cutting my only summer vacation short.
Stupid hurricane.
Looks like I can catch a 1:00 flight that will get me to Philly at 2:30.
