My head hurts from this thread.
Re: My head hurts from this thread.
WTF???
"believe me I teach and can't wait to get my paycheck in Sept.! I'm kinda confused by those that don't live paycheck to paycheck to some extent. I mean why work if you are rolling in it to begin with...I know I know before anyone explains it to me it's to keep your stockpile going..."
For real?
The rest of that post - first 3 pages anyway - is a head scratcher too.

Clicky for the lazy and those on smart phones.
I really don't think that most of them know what living paycheck to paycheck means...and they're raising children. That makes me weep for our future.
Also, is this a follow up to another post? There is a lot of anger and defensiveness in that thread that doesn't appear at all to be warranted.
I can't get behind either way of thinking.
I think it devolved into huge generalizations, and I kind of felt bad for KC that she wasn't making her point better.
There are plenty of people who live a cushy life because they spend all of their income and buy things on credit and payment plans. They're still living paycheck to paycheck, so when something bad happens they're screwed. They're certainly not in poverty, but they're still technically living paycheck to paycheck. I hope most people would agree that this is not a good idea, although the consumer culture in the US very strongly encourages it.
One of the problems I see with that thread is that a bunch of women seem like they felt personally attacked like KC was saying that it was their own fault for being hard up. And then she dug herself into a hole with some later nonsense.
And FWIW, most Norwegians actually do live paycheck to paycheck, because of the net of the social welfare system, state pension, public healthcare, etc. I have a lot of (intelligent, financially-savvy) colleagues who stress about getting expense reports filed ASAP because they need the money from business trips, etc. back in their accounts for daily expenses!
Thanks for posting the thread. I thought it was very interesting to read it. I am so happy that in Spain they do have the social welfare system even though I think most people here do live from paycheck to paycheck.
I agree with KC a bit when she talked about people being confused beteween needs and wants. However, I dont think she realizes how hard it is for people to find a job nowadays. I think it boils down to the fact that some people grow up with some level of comfort. They are used to cable tv, new clothes, and eating out. When they get older and leave home, they want to keep up this lifestyle even though they are not making enough to support it. KWIM?
Anyway, I was just surprised that people viewed living from paycheck to paycheck as something that is okay.
ITA with this. I am living this now. It doesnt help that there is over 20% unemployment here. There are hundreds of people trying to get one job.
