Howdy! Regarding the produce market in CT with Asian spices etc - it is in Milford on Boston Post Road, and called M&M farms. It's largely produce and is really, really cheap. Granted, you're not going to find tons of organic locally grown stuff, but you will walk out with 6 huge bags of produce for under $40. It's a great deal.
In the back of the store there is a fish monger (never tried, but it looked like they had good stuff) and a generically Asian market. They have tons of spices and supplies (rice, lentils, flours, etc), as well as prepared and frozen foods. It's a cash only operation, but you really can find just about anything under the sun. That part is sort of broken up by region (China/Korea/Japan/India) but you may have to dig a bit to find what you are looking for.
I've also heard the Penzy's has great spices, but I don't know if they are "adventerous" spices or just the standard American blends.
