Cleaning Schedule

I need some ideas on how to keep on top of my cleaning so I don't have to spend the whole weekend catching up. Do you guys clean certain rooms on certain days? Any ideas for making it more manageable?

Re: Cleaning Schedule

  • I'm in the process of making a chart similar to this from iHeartOrganizing:

It's mostly for DH because he always says, "well I could help more if I had a list of what needed to be done!"

I've been working on this for days and I'm afraid I'll miss something. Also, marking things off a list makes me feel good. I'm planning on laminating it and using a dry erase marker and taping it to the fridge. I figure if I need to add something it's no big deal to add it to my document and print a new one. Plus I like the pretty colors. Smile

  • I love the idea of laminating it and putting it on the fridge! I am also a visual person who writes things on lists just so I can cross them off. haha
  • Ours is laminated on the fridge so I can wipe off the checks as needed.

    Daily:

    Make beds

    Unload/Load/Run dishwasher

    Sweep/Vacuum main floor

    Wipe down counters

Wipe down kitchen and bathroom sink

    Laundry

Put main floor toys away (we spend most of our time on the main level so toys accumulate quickly)

Clean toys from MBR (they kids always bring a bunch of toys in our room through the day).

    Monday:

    Wash sheets

    Dust bedrooms

    Vacuum Bedrooms

    Put all toys/cloths/books away

    Tuesday:

    Vacuum

    Mop

    Dust main level

    Wednesday:

    Clean bathroom mirrors

    Declutter and clean bathroom counters

    Scrub Toilets

    Scrub Showers

    Thursday:

    Scrub microwave

    Wipe down and organize fridge

    Straighten pantry

    Clean trash cans

    Scrub stove

    Friday:

    Vacuum

    Mop

    Vacuum steps

I clean the kitchen on Thursdays because trash comes on Fridays.  I clean floors 2x/week because if I don't put a limit on it I'll spend all week cleaning them, and they take a few hours to do from beginning to end so I don't have other big tasks on those days.  I don't stress about it too much, if I scrub the shower a day earlier I just check it off.  I use the days as more of a suggested time than a rule of what HAS to be done on that day.  I'm going to make a new list soon that has things done less frequently (monthly, quarterly, annually) on the back so I can just flip the sheet over but not have to clutter up the front page with a bunch of stuff that really doesn't apply normally.  I try not to have any tasks other than daily things on weekends.

  • Fly Lady! It can be a bit intense but I adjust it to fit my home's needs.

I've been using this list...with some modifications based on our own home.

The idea of laminating the list once solid on the items, and then tacking on the fridge with a dry eraser is FANTASTIC...didn't even think of it.
