I got a 2nd interview!!!! And 2 questions...

I got a call from the company I interviewed with last week and they want to do a 2nd interview with the VP of HR next Tuesday!  Woop!!!!  I'm BEYOND excited.

Question 1-- I wore a black skirt suit to the first interview.  I do not have pants to match it.  I also own a gray suit jacket from macy's but no matching bottoms.  Can I wear that with black slacks and heels?  This office is business casual.  The men wear ties but no coats and the women just wear slacks and tops/blouses.

Question 2--  After the interview, I have to take a computer literacy test that all interviewees that get this far have to take.  The HR woman said it is just basic stuff like how to open a file (It concerns me that people have to be tested on this but whatever).  Has anyone ever had to take a test like this???  What's it like?

Thanks!!!!

  • Congratulations!  That is so exciting!

  • Wooty woot!  Congrats!

In regards to the clothing, can you just wear the black slacks with the black suit jacket and a blouse?  Otherwise, I might just skip the jacket all together and just wear slacks and a nice blouse.

I have taken a computer competency test before after an interview and the one I took was beyond easy.  Basically, it tracks how you perform simple tasks.  For example, opening a file - whether you double-click it or right click and choose "open".  Cut and paste a word - do you highlight it and go to the edit menu or use shortcuts like "Ctrl X" and "Ctrl V".  They basically want to know that you can perform everyday tasks on a computer no matter how you do it and that you have the knowledge to get your way around.  Hopefully, it is something similar.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

  • Congrats!

I don't know about the computer test,  but I totally agree that you could wear the grey jacket with black bottoms.

So exciting, and I"m so happy for you! Keeping fingers crossed for you on Tuesday!!!!

Ditto, pretty much all of what Brooke said. I'd wear black slacks with black suit jacket (as long as they looked okay together) with a nice top.

I've also taken a computer literacy test before when I worked through a staffing company - they needed to make sure you can do basic functions, because (amazingly) there are people who don't know how to open a Word doc. It was really easy.

  • Thanks!!!  When I asked her about the test she said it was similar to something that they do at staffing companies and it was just basic stuff like opening a file.  Glad to know it's easy.  It's weird-- I've sat in front of a computer every day for about 15 years yet I'm nervous about this- haha.

    - off to practice my right clicking skills. :P

  • I wanted to add I had to take a cognition test when I interviewed for my current test, in addition to the personality test.

The cognition test was similar to an IQ test, looking at shapes/patterns and asking which would come next in the sequence, etc. I found out what the website it was on, and found a demo version of it for companies looking to evaluate their software, complete with screenshots of the entire cognition test. I practiced that thing until I could do it in 2 mins flat. I'm quite sure I'm very, very cognitive. If not, I'm very type A about researching crap.

LOL-- cheers to my fellow type A's!!!!  Thanks!

  • Congrats on the second interview!  That's wonderful!

As far as attire, I think I'd have to see the grey suit jacket with the black pants...I can't figure out how it would look.  I agree with Brooke that maybe you should do the black pants with the black suit jacket you wore to the first interview (assuming the blacks match).

Either way, I hope the second interview goes as well as the first!  Good luck!!!
