WI Must Do

My husband and I have decided to throughly embrace our new home, we want to experiance all the things WI has to offer.

What would you say would be a must see/do/experiance event or location?  Anywhere in WI.

I am making a list of all the things and then we'll always have something to do on weekends.

Thanks!

Re: WI Must Do

  • Go to the Capitol building in Madison. Shop/walk State Street.

Visit Lambeau Field; do the tour.

    Experience Door County.

Visit some of the wineries (I prefer Von Stiehl in Algoma).

Visit any of the cheese-making places and try to find one with a tour.

    Tour Miller.

Drink lots of beer, eat lots of cheese. :-)

  • Milwaukee Art Museum

Milwaukee Public Museum (they have the Titanic exhibit now)

Discovery World (even neat if you don't have kids!)

    IMAX

    The Milwaukee Zoo

All the 'fests' in the summer downtown (Summerfest, River Splash, Bastielle Days....)

    Lakefront Brewery Tour

    Sprecher Brewery Tour

Find your favorite fish fry place.

    Visit WI Dells

Devil's Lake State Park is neat.

Lake Geneva has some touristy things to do.

    Kohler Art Center in Sheboygan

Tour the Kohler Company plant in Kohler.

Eagle River is kinda neat if you want to go explore the "northwoods".  There are other neat towns up there too.

  • Drive along Lake Superior and go to Bayfield and the Duluth/Superior area.

Door County and the wineries there.  I agree on Von Stiehl, their Oktoberfest wine is really good.

During the summer months the Minocqua area is a great place to visit to take in some water sports.

Wisconsin Dells and Devil's Lake State Park

Speaking of state parks there are a lot of them that are nice, especially if you are into camping. A couple of good ones are Door Pennisula and Amnicon Falls.

La Crosse is another fun city to visit.

  • I'd second anything on the above lists...

Concerts at Alipne Valley in East Troy

    Heritage Hill - Green Bay

The Railroad Museum - Green Bay

    Old World Wisconsin

Glacier Rock Farm - Petting Zoo / Haunted House

I'll also add that Chicago is not too far of a drive and that can add:

    The Adler Planetarium

    The Field Museum

The Museum of Science and Industry

    The Sears Tower

    The Hancock Building

    The Shedd Aquarium

    The Art Institute

P.S. We just honeymooned at the resort you were married at, fabulous!

  • Sorry, I broke the rules with Chicago!

Speaking of camping - we just discovered High Cliff State Park, it's beautiful! Terry-Andrae (Kohler Andrae) State Park is another good one!

  • Door County trip, preferably in summer or fall. Peninsula State Park, Wilson's ice cream, shopping, Peninsula Players if in season; maybe a fish boil

Northern Wisconsin trip in summer--fishing, caneoing, swimming, etc. Minocqua/Eagle River/Hayward areas. Hayward also has Fishing Hall of Fame (giant musky) and lumberjack shows in summer.

    Cheese factory tour

Brewery Tour (Lakefront, Sprecher, Miller in Milwaukee; Leinie's in Chippewa Falls)

Breakfast on the Farm in the summer--they have these in several communities.

Friday fish fry (preferably at a little bar or tavern)

Lambeau on a Packer game day

Madison trip: tour state capitol, Circus World Museum in Baraboo, free Henry Vilas zoo, State Street, walk around campus and get Babcock ice cream at the dairy building thingy

Holy Hill can be nice if you are in the Milwaukee area. Climb the stairs to see the view; very pretty in fall. Can get pie, soup, etc at the cafe when it's open.

The Dells! Preferably in summer. Take the Ducks tour, look at the pretty river and bluffs, cheesey stuff like old time photos and candy stores. Water parks.

Explore the water: Crystal River canoe trip, Wolf River rafting, Namekagon canoe or kayak, etc.

TONS of stuff in Milwaukee--that is multiple trips in itself.

Explore any of the state parks--see the website.

Old World Wisconsin has a great Christmas program in December where you go out at night and learn about old-fashioned holiday traditions.

Candlelight ski/hike at various parks in winter

There are tons of festivals you could attend, year-round, all over the place.

Cedarburg is cute for a day trip--winery tour, shopping.

Explore Amish country near Princeton, WI.

Badger game, Brewer game, Packer game, etc., with tailgating.

  • PS - don't expect to actually park AT Lambeau on Game Day or take a tour or even get in the stadium.  You need a ticket, which I guess is a great experience (I hate football) and you'll likely have to go through an agent.

You also really should go up the Door County during winter and experience just how dead and quiet it is.  It's crazy. LOL But great to get away from it all.

  • You girls are great!  These are awesome suggestions!  I love the resources!  THANK YOU!!!!
