In honor of the FAQ Bday....

I do have a FAQ, but I wanted a more 'personal' response.

I'm in the market for a new sewing machine and a serger.

I currently have a near 40 year old Kenmore and no serger. I'm looking fo rrecs on both- but would like to know what you like about yours and what you don't like about them!

Thanks!

  • I have a Brother CS-6000i. I like that it's computerized and I don't need a foot pedal. I think it's easier to work than my old one. The error codes help me cut down on troubleshooting. I actually have less trouble with this one than my old Brother (I think it was an LX model of some sort, Overstock was selling them with a Project Runway twist, I think.) I have yet to find a real downside to this machine. I think I bought it based on recommendations here, actually. There should be more on it in the FAQs.

  • I know I've had mine less than 24 hours, but I'm a huge fan of my Brother 1034d serger. After I got over the shock of how many dials/knobs/buttons it has (compared to my plain jane sewing machine), it was a breeze. It was ready to go right out of the box.

No foot pedal?! For reals? And around 150 bones?

Yes, no foot pedal! It has one with it, but I use all the buttons. It's especially useful when you're going one stitch at a time in a small little curve on appliques. I think we got one for about $170 on ebay NIB. I can't remember the seller's name, but I can pass it on when I get home from work tonight.

  • Their ebay name is easyterms and they have a picture that says "Ken's Sewing & Vacuum Center."

We actually ordered 2 (one for myself and one for my MIL) and they both arrived safe and sound. I love it a lot.
