Tips for removing new mattress smell?

I have been trying to air it out and I used a bit of Febreeze but I still cant get rid of the smell. It has only been 24 hours but I was wondering if there is anything I can do to speed the process along.

TIA

Re: Tips for removing new mattress smell?

  • Uhg, I purchased a new quilt and it had this weird smell to it, I am thinking it came from the plastic bag it arrived in from the store. But I had to wash and dry it twice to get the darn thing to smell normal. Wish you could do that with your mattress. Is there any way to get it out into some fresh air for a day or so?

  • I have all the windows open. I live in a big city so I cant take it outside. And of course I googled to find the answer and all that popped up was about how chemicals in mattresses can kill you so I decided not open the links. I want to sleep at night.

    Yikes.

Sorry, I forgot not everyone lives in the land of sprawling lawns! I hope you find the magic answer soon!

  • Mix baking soda and a few drops of lavendar or some other oil. Combine them until the baking soda is wet and starts to clump, but make sure you don't use so much oil that the baking soda is soaked. Sprinkle it on your matress for about an hour (I leave it on there for the amount of time it takes me to wash and dry our sheets) and then vacuum it up.
