Background: I graduated pharmacy school in May. Our last year of school is comprised of 8 5-week rotations. We spend 5 weeks at a time in various practice sites. At my last rotation before graduation, my preceptor was the director of pharmacy in a hospital. She was in the process of trying to implement a program that would add four new jobs to that hospital. I did a great deal of the research that she used to give the hospital CEO/CFO when she presented the program.
The jobs that would be initiated by this program would literally be my dream job. Also, since I did a lot of the work, I kind of have a vested interest in the program. I told her I was interested and left her a copy of my CV before I left.
My question is this: I want to send her an email to sort of touch base and see if there's any chance of the program being implemented, etc. Partly because I really want the job, and partly just because I'm interested after doing so much work on it. How do I phrase it? I don't really want to come off as "I'm wanting to know what's going on and if you'll give me the job." But I also don't want to just not contact her again. So I'm stumped. Help please?
And I do currently have a job, so it's not out of desperation either lol. TIA!
Re: How to write this email?
Dear Dr So and So,
As you may recall from last May, I completed a rotation in your department doing research on XYZ. I wanted to touch base with you and see how the plan has progressed since I graduated. I really enjoyed the rotation and hope you were able to implement your plans.
Sincerely,
laclifto
If she responds that she is/was able to implement the plan, you can talk to her about next steps since you're interested in the job.
