Hey! I hope you are going great! I think I remember you saying you worked at a place like Ferguson show room? Either way, I think you might be able to answer this question for me.

DH and I have chosen this shower head combo for our bathroom once we get the tub/walls renovation going soon.

http://www.deltafaucet.com/bath/details/144938-ss-i.html

There are two prices for it, $290 for the chrome, and $393 for the brilliance stainless.

Other than appearance, what's the main difference between the two. Either would look fine in our room, so we'd naturally go for the cheaper one. However, why is the stainless more expensive? Is it because it looks better, better quality, etc.? We'd buy the stainless if it's going to hold up longer, etc. but not if it's only for the look.

What insight can you share with me on this?

Re: ***Casperdy***

  • Yo yo. I work at the place you mentioned for THREE MORE DAYS. I'm so pumped.

But yes, I can help!  From the beginning:

The In2ition style showerhead is awesome-I have one.  Delta doesn't actually make them... a company called Alsons does.  Alsons is a showerhead specialist and they make them for Delta.  If you buy the Alsons brand, you get slightly better quality, as they make a "value" version for Delta (Delta is only metal on the front (visible side, plastic on the back, has a plastic hose, etc).

That being said, the Delta models are totally fine.  Are you just buying the showerhead or are you redoing the entire thing (the control, etc) like you show in the picture?  Because that's where the price comes from-the actual In2ition showerhead alone is not that much $$.

Regardless, there is no difference in the quality of the finishes.  Stainess/brushed nickel is just more expensive because, well, the industry decided that it is.  They all have the same actual finishing process and like, on a faucet, the finishes all have the same warranty.  All you are paying for is the trendiness of the stainless/nickel look.  And from personal opinion-the chrome fingerprints and the stainless/nickel water spots, so they both have their drawbacks.

BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!-if you want chrome, I have a brand new chrome Alsons In2ition showerhead in my basement that needs a home, and I would gladly send it to you.  I don't remember which style it is (they make 4 different "looks") but the functions are all the same.  I can check when I'm at home.

    Hope that helps!

  • That would be awesome if you check out which one you have and let me know! I'm glad you have one and really like it. I've had the hardest time trying to find something.

Yes, we are looking to get the whole pack, or whatever it's called, that also has the other two items (not sure the technical names), the faucet and water control.

I've looked up Alsons on their website, and it shows them being available for purchase at Winnelson in our town (which is like Furgeson, but not as nice). So I know it will be pricey there, but I'll look around online. But if you think the Delta version is fine, I won't worry about it too much.

    Do you know anything about:

    www.faucetdirect.com

    or

    www.faucet.com

Both have the combo in stainless for $245 with free shipping. (which Home Depot sells for $393, and our Ferguson for $403). I'd prefer chrome, but they don't seem to have it. Do you think these places are legit?

ETA: I found the same one on Amazon too, but for $175.95 for the whole thing.

    http://www.amazon.com/Delta-144938-SS-I-In2ition-Brilliance-Stainless/dp/B003H4650U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1314466489&sr=8-5

What do you think about that?

  • Alsons only makes the showerhead, so not the trim package (which is the control and tub spout).  You can put the showerhead with any trim, however.  The only things that have to match, brand-wise, are the trim and valve.  The valve is the working plumbing part that goes behind the wall and hooks up to your hot and cold water.  The trim is the control that turns the water on/controls the temperature.  The valve in the wall must be Delta if the trim is Delta.  Hopefully that makes sense.

So, you can buy the Delta trim and tub spout then put the Alsons showerhead on the showerarm if you want. That might be more complicated though, as you will have to buy parts and pieces instead.  You might be better off getting the whole package from Amazon for that price.

The problem with most online vendors is warranty-sometimes it is not honored if you purchase from there, or if the warranty is still honored, they won't help you with a claim, so you are left trying to navigate it by yourself.  Otherwise, there is just more damage from online vendors and no service to explain stuff (which is what I'm doing so you don't need that anyway ;-)).  Both of those vendors are fine, as is amazon.  They are popular.

I have this one in a box:

It's my favorite that Alsons makes because it is the easiest to remove/replace the handheld (so, function) but it is also not as attractive as the one you are looking at.  But, it's yours if you want it.  I don't think Delta will sell the package without the showerhead though... you would have to order the trim (control and tub spout) and valve separately, then get a shower arm to mount this showerhead onto... so that might be more trouble than it's worth.

Sorry if that got confusing!  Let me know if you have any qs.

  • What do you think would be the better idea? to buy the one on Amazon, or should I buy it from a place like Lowes? In your honest opinion.

There isn't a difference in the product from buying it at Lowe's/online verses in a store like Ferguson, is there? Our contractor wanted us to pick it out at a place he could get the builder/contractor discount, but I knew I could probably find it cheaper, and I did.

ETA: Which shower head style do you have?

ETAx2: Say, if we buy the combo with everything, will I still need to purchase the part that goes behind the wall for the controller, or would that come with it?

While I have you.....what's your take on a good material for bathtubs? We live in an average house, so doesn't need to be the best thing available, but I wouldn't want the worst either. From what I've read online, it sounds like Acrylic might be the way to go? What do you think?
