Yet another use for rotary cutter/mat/lip ruler

Cutting shelf lining :)

That's about as crafty as I get lately.  You never realize how many cabinets you have until you go about lining them.

Re: Yet another use for rotary cutter/mat/lip ruler

  • I hear ya, sister! When we moved into this house I was so excited about the pantry, and then I had to paper the shelves!

And I also hear ya on not crafting. I've been in the thick of putting up the garden and being sick the rest of the time. I'm not complaining about being sick at all, but I'm getting tired of canning. lol

  • JIL, how's the new house? Hope you are all settling in ok!

Thess, you are a mighty strong woman to be doing all that canning with morning sickness!

  • Thess--you are a better woman than I am.  When I had ms with LA, I could not even look at food, let alone can!  I almost tossed cookies in the grocery store--that was fun.

NC--moving is going s.l.o.w.l.y.  We purchased a foreclosure so there is some work to do before we physically move in.  Luckily, the owning bank replaced flooring, repainted, and did some basic clean up, but we are in the process of really cleaning the cabinet/drawers, etc.  It is just time consuming.  I don't get how some people "clean" (honestly, I don't think they really did).

Our new house is only 1.5 miles from our current one, so going back and forth is easy.  We have been taking loads over with us when we go work.  The kitchen is finally clean "enough" (still have to scour the oven, stove and microwave), but I can start putting things in the cabinets.  Today we are tackling the master bathroom--and I am convinced that a bottle of foundation spilled in the top drawer years ago and dribbled down through all the remaining drawers.  Yuck.  Thank goodness for shelf liner, Lysol 4 in 1 and Magic Erasers (oh, and rubber gloves)!!

  • Sounds like a giant task. H and I are planning to buy a home when we move in 9-10 months and have recently been debating taking on a foreclosure/fixer-up. We would have the advantage of starting it at the beginning of the summer (hopefully) and not at the beginning of the school year; I can't imagine how busy you must be!

  • It hasn't been easy, but I just keep telling myself it will all taste so good when I'm big and pregnant in the middle of winter. And I'm hoping to can a little more than needed for a year because next year I'm not sure if I will plant as big of a garden if I have a teeny one and an almost three year old.

My ms has been coming every afternoon and getting worse (like, laying on the couch, not really able to do anything) by evening, so I just do as much as I can in the mornings when I feel good and Lily is in the best mood. After this week, I'm pretty much done. My tomatoes aren't doing anything, so I'll just mooch stewed tomatoes off my parents and be done. I do have TONS of pumpkins coming, but those are fun because I just set them on the porch. lol

And on buying a fixer-upper/foreclosure: oh my, we are renting a fixer upper and we have an awesome landlord that is letting us rent really cheap, so we're helping him do most of it. It seems like we're always replacing a light fixture or painting something or living around construction. Hopefully you can get as much done before you move in! :)

  • I worked for a house cleaning company during the summer in college (8-4, M-F.. best hours ever!) and we did a lot of move-out/move-in cleans. In some instances it is totally worth it. We cleaned an apartment once that reeked of cats/urine (one girl w/ a cat allergy had to leave it was so bad) and looked as though the tenant had NEVER cleaned. How do people live like that? I feel like I'm always cleaning or picking up.

Hooray for new houses, though. :)  DH and I are talking about moving next spring/summer.

  • I wonder what it is with tomatoes. Mine have had many blossoms, but very few fruit. The pumpkins sound like fun.

Mah, those do sound like great hours, but cleaning up after my own family grosses me out. Other people's ick (old cat pee?!)... I'm not sure I could face it on a daily basis.

  • Luckily we are not dealing with urine or other bodily fluids Ick!

I'm just tired of scrubbing cabinets and drawers.  Thank goodness I wrapped that up today.  Next up...bleaching grout and recaulking bathtubs.  DH gets to deal with the yard.

    Fun times.

I am excited that my stove should be fixed later this week (thank you home warranty) and we are getting blinds installed as well.  I have to measure the inside of the oven to order racks (seriously...how do they go missing??).  Thank goodness DH can work from home so we can get all of this done while I am at work!

99% of the homes we cleaned were already clean. Most of the clients were wealthy people and cleaning their homes was basically dust & vacuum. The apartment was a one-time thing. It smelled mostly like lots of cats, not so much cat urine.  There was only so much we could do, we weren't magicians. We complained about it so much the owners paid us extra.
