Student Loans and BAH

They are now counting my son's BAH as taxable income and raised his student loan payments. He has been calling and trying to get them to understand it is not to be considered and have his payment lowered. No luck at all. Any suggestions or anyone have this happen and get it resolved.

Re: Student Loans and BAH

  • BAH is absolutely non-taxable income. All allowances fall into the non-taxable category while anything labeled pay is taxable.

Maybe have your son talk to JAG to see if they can help him when talking to his student loan companies. Also, if they need a notarized letter, JAG can help with that as well!

It makes me sick when companies try to take advantage of our service members. I hope that your son gets everything worked out soon!!

  • I'm not really any help. I guess show them a pay stub and circle BAH so they can see how it's not taxed. I'd be so angry if it were me dealing with those people.

The unfunny part is he is JAG and the SL people just say too bad Tongue Tied I will tell him to try the notarized letter. Thanks.

  • If he's a JAG Officer then I'm pretty sure he can take care of this himself :)
