Just checking in with everyone...the photos and video on CNN are pretty scary. I'm really concerned about Emily :-/ Anyone in the path of the storm please check in a let us know how you're doing, if you have power and you're able!!
Here in Central NY we're getting a lot of rain and the wind is pretty strong, it's still on it's way though. There's a lot of small branches and leaves in the road and our backyard but nothing major at all yet. At this point the biggest threat we have here is the flooding. My dad's printing business is right next to the river and it flooded back in 2004 really badly which was before he owned it. We're just crossing our fingers and keeping an eye on it hoping it doesn't flood again. I may be spending my afternoon moving boxes of paper and boxes of paper items that have been printed and paid for to get them out of the shop before the water gets in there and ruins them. We still have power, obviously, but it has flickered a couple of times. Alex is currently napping through it lol.
Re: Hurricane Irene: Is everyone ok?
We're okay.
Emily evacuated, although I'm not sure where she went. I know that the area where she lives (not just the Outer Banks, but her actual neighborhood) is completely flooded. My friends who live there have been posting some pretty horrible pictures. Hopefully she's able to post an update soon.
All is well in the "H" residence. We were expecting to lose power, but that didn't happen thank goodness. It wasn't nearly as bad we were expecting... the state of emergency was lifted at noon today. It is still very windy out.
Luckily we're at the top of the hill going down to the Schuylkill River, so we're not flooded here. But Main St, which runs along the river is completely under water right now. Last I saw, there was about foot and a half of water and the river still hadn't crested.

We are ok. I'm actually pretty surprised that we haven't gotten much more than a little rain and some wind (esp with being just 2 blocks from the ocean).*knock on wood* It's strange how different towns are being affected differently. 2 surrounding towns are completely without power and some flooded. If it wasn't for the obvious pressure change in the air, it would seem like just another rainy day.We went down to the beach a few hours ago and the waves are crazy but not breaching the walls/causing flooding.

The rain is dying down a bit now which is really good thing because the river behind the print shop is up tot he foundation now and even if it stops raining completely now it will still rise a bit as the run off comes down from the hills
here's to hoping it doesn't come in, but it's not looking good. I had to take the long way around to get back home and there were a lot of huge trees down just one road over from our street. There is still a power line down three houses down from us, but we never lost power amazingly enough.
Glad that everyone who has checked in so far is doing well!!
For some reason I thought you lived in Colington! I'm glad you don't, though.
Glad to hear! I've been thinking about you all weekend.
We used to! But we moved to Kitty Hawk last November.
Glad everyone faired pretty well! We lost power all day yesterday, about 10am to 10pm. It was kind of fun for a while though...puzzles, wine, and snacks! We were worried about trees coming down in our yard, but nothing more than some large branches.
VT sounds like it is a mess with lots flooding, scary stuff. I hope Genevieve is ok........
We apparently lost 2 hours of power from 4-6am Sunday, but were otherwise fine. (was out of town so I wasn't in the storm) The outside of my complex is a bit of a mess, but nothing the landscapers can't handle/ nothing that poses a threat.
Glad to hear so many have checked in and are okay.
Stand up for something you believe in.
