pinto beans in crock pot and freezing them?
C loved her squashed charro beans I gave her last night when we were out..
I wanted to do some at home. I bought some pinto beans at teh store today
What's an easy quick way to do them? Can I make in the crock pot? I don't want to have to watch the stove. I will omit the pork/bacon from them.
Also, can I freeze them after they've been cooked?
Re: pinto beans in crock pot and freezing them?
Soak in cold water overnight. Crockpot on low all day with onion, garlic and some meat (I'd leave the meat in the recipe and just not serve it to her).
They get a little mushier after freezing, but that should be fine. (We eat them after freezing but my mom turns her nose up at them.)
It's my personal preference, but I'd leave the meat in too, as long as there's no allergies or sensitivities involved. If it's because of the kiddo not eating meat, just use a ham hock for flavoring, and you won't get any meat in there. I personally think pinto beans are super bland without a ham hock or something.
