Tablets (like ipad2) vs laptop?

What would you say is the difference for buying a tablet like the ipad vs a laptop? i basically want to surf the web, facebook, online shopping site and the nest of course.  I do want to be able to use programs like a wordperfect program and excel.  I also have a Canon T3i camera so I do want to download photos (some editing and printing on home printer plus I do send some thru internet to walmart to be printed). My husband does have a home computer that I could use depending on what an Ipad won't do but I hate to tie it up when he needs it. I don't play a lot of games that would need huge memory but I do play some Bigfish games that I download as well. I think that is what I do most on the computer.  Any input would help as I don't know much about the tablets out there.

TIA

  • Sorry I am also going to bed now so I will be checking back tomorrow for any responses. Thanks

  • The biggest downside is honestly not having a DVD rom.

  • The biggest difference for me is precision and lack of Flash software.  Anything requiring Flash won't work on the iPad.  And something as complex as photo editing certainly won't work on an iPad.  I use my iPad with different apps as well as website browsing.

You can't really use it to store photos since you need to connect to a computer with iTunes to be able to sync it.  The iPad doesn't have any inputs except for the Apple USB cable that has a proprietary end on it (like an iPhone cable).

It sounds like a laptop would be best for you.  An iPad would be great for portability and doing things with the touch screen, but for productivity and photo editing, it probably won't cut it.  GL in your decision!
