Morning everyone! We looked at a house last night that I liked. Well, everything BUT the kitchen. We'd want to redo the kitchen but want to price out cabinets and countertops before we put in an offer. Just wondering if anyone has used the kitchen cabinets and countertops from IKEA? Can you review them?

Re: IKEA Cabinets (kitchen)
I've wondered about this before too and did some research. I remember a post, maybe on this board, ages ago but I'm thinking it would be nearly impossible to find. Did you look on the decorating and renovationing board? And I found it helpful to just Google "Ikea kitchen reviews" - if I remember correctly, lots came up - mostly good.
No personal experiences for me but....hope this helps!
I don't have personal experience, but this gets asked fairly often over on the D&R board, and the responses are always positive. The only negative I've ever read about them is that if you have an older home with walls that aren't level/plumb/straight, they can be difficult to install.....but honestly, that would likely be the case with ANY cabinets.
When we eventually re-do our kitchen, I will definitely be looking into IKEA cabinets.
We remodeled our kitchen a couple years ago and used IKEA cabinets/countertops/flooring. We have an older house (50's) which has plaster walls, but we didn't have any problems. Overall we've been really happy with the outcome and for the price I'm extremely satisfied. We have the white Lidingo style cabinets with butcherblock countertops. The butcherblock isn't my favorite from a practical standpoint, but they look good in our "country kitchen" and the price couldn't be beat.
I will say that I've noticed that there is one little area on a lower base cabinet where the laminate finish is peeling. It's in a spot right below where I hang our handtowel by the sink, and I'm thinking that sometimes it gets a little wet from time to time. It's not noticeable since it's actually on the top of the drawer and you only notice it when you slide the drawer out, but take from that what you will.
I think I have some random "during" pictures that might give you an idea of the installation. Overall it went pretty quick and was relatively easy to install.
Okay, so the pictures I actually have kinda' stink. I thought I had a few more of the "during" renovation that showed just after the cabinets were hung. I think I still might have them on my cell phone but I haven't uploaded those to the computer. I feel the need to deliver something though, haha... so here are a few scary pictures of the before kitchen, and a few more close-up pictures of the work "during" the process. I'll try to take a picture or two today of the whole kitchen so you can get an idea of the whole transformation. I'm not sure why I've never done that to begin with.
Forgot to mention that we also used the farmhouse sink from IKEA too. I flippin' love that thing and it's my favorite thing in the whole kitchen.
Ritzy--Everytime I'm at IKEA I drool over the model kitchen with the farmhouse sink and butcher block counter tops. I'm sure I would love your kitchen!
I'll have to post some better pictures for you!! That last one totally sucked, and I didn't realize how dark it came out. As soon as I get all my random crap off of the countertop, I'd be happy to take some more pictures. lol
