Robyn (re:PUPPS)

I had PUPPS with my first daughter. I am so sorry!  I was hesitant to write this post because I don't want to scare you, but my experience was awful.  It was definitely more than just a rash-It covered my whole stomach and my legs, and the itchiness was out of control.   The only cure is delivering the baby-I got it at 34 weeks!!!  I spent about $300 on creams and otc drugs, and even a few things prescribe by my OB-NOTHING worked.  The only thing that provided a little relief was oatmeal baths.  I eventually resorted to cold baths-I would get up at midnight and 3 am and get into the cold water-it was as awful as it sounds, but it would give me a little relief, enough so I could get a few hours of sleep.    It will be hard, but do not scratch, especially if you have stretch marks-I still have scars on my stomach from all the itching I did.

I joined a few PUPPS message boards just for support and advice.   If I think of anything else I will let you know!

  • Yeah, Robyn, jen2713 & I battled this PUPPS nightmare at the same time. Pretty much - what she said.

My OB gave me 2 rounds of prednisone (oral steroid). I think it helped a tiny bit.

I am sorry you are dealing with it, it is effing horrible.

  • I think I had this after my daughter was born.  I had no idea that's what it was called.  I think my doctor gave me some anitbiotics & that helped.  I hope you get to feeling better.  I have no advice, but I'm sorry you have to go through it.
  • Thanks for the info ladies!  I am hoping it's just a really mild case (I consider wanting to itch my skin off with no real visible rash mild after seeing pictures etc).  Can it progressively get worse?  Does it get better at all or just hang around until delivery?  If so, it's going to be a long third trimester if I am not even 27 weeks!!!

  • Oh no R!  Hope it's a mild case or is just a plain ole rash (have you eaten anything new or started any new medications or used new lotions?).  Hang in there, in less than 4 months you'll be holding that bitty little boy.

Nope, nothing new.  It's not even a full blown rash, my tummy just itches like I cannot even describe---the 3 OBs in the practice said yesterday likely mild PUPPs and hope it doesn't get worse.

Eviction date is in 12 weeks.  Black Friday is the last possible day the Dr will schedule my c/s :)

  • Robyn, I am really sorry you are dealing with this :(  At the start of my 3rd trimester, I developed eczema on my hands and feet (???). It was the worst itching I had ever experienced and was tough to diagnose (went to my regular doctor first, then ended up at a dermatologist). The eczema was pregnancy related and thankfully remedied by some prescription cream. Just wanted to extend my sympathy. I know wht it's like to google your symptoms and get way freaked out, too! Hoping your case is mild.
