F/U on my nephew

Welllllllllll he needs surgery. Apparently his bones are all sorts of discombobulated so they have to put pins in there and all sorts of crap. The good news is he gets a camoflage cast - woohoo!  (seriously, he's really excited about this).

Any ideas for a care package for a 7 1/2 year old boy? I have to mail it so it can't be chocolate or anything that may melt.

Re: F/U on my nephew

  • Aww poor little guy. But a camo cast does sound pretty cool, he will definitely be a celebrity at school.

Maybe you can send him a board game or something? a dvd of a show he likes or a move he likes. Gummy worms since they won't melt? Good luck and it is very sweet you are sending that to him!

  • Poor guy!! Though a camo cast does sound SUPER cool!! ;) I agree sending something that won't melt is a great idea. Maybe some cool movies or some cool books/comic books or something like that.
  • Shucks!  But at least he is excited about the cast!

I liked Breanne's suggestion about the gummy worms.  Those are always fun to eat!  What else is he into (besides being a daredevil)?

hahah no kidding! He's all about army stuff, fishing, football (gotta ask my sis who his favorite team is), and he just got a hermit crab for his suffering. Do hermit crabs like toys? lol

  • No, but in order to ensure survival...they will need bigger shells...I was unaware of this fact and mine died in college because he was growing too much and was squished in his shell basically...

  • The camo cast sounds awesome!  That stinks that he needs surgery, but kids bounce back fast from this stuff.  I would go with movies or comic books for the care package.  How about on of those long handled back scratchers, he will need it for itches under the cast (unpleasant, but true).  An army man action figure, perhaps.
  • That sucks, but at least he's excited about his cast! That should hopefully take his mind off the more unpleasant aspects.

I know nothing about 7 year old boys, but I like everyone else's ideas.

  • That's so cute that he's excited about his cast :P  Hopefully that will distract him from all of the annoyances of having a cast.

You should get him army legos to match his cast!

Can you find something else camo to match...pajamas? a tshirt?  since he's into army stuff...I like everyone else's ideas too!

  • I would also suggest non-chocolate candy, maybe a movie and some microwave popcorn, a gift card for Toys R Us or Game Stop.  Does he have an Xbox or DS or anything like that?  Perhaps an electronic game too, if he does.

That poor kid.  And right before he starts school, too.  :(  He sounds like a little trooper.  I hope the surgery goes smoothly and he recovers fast and easily!!!

  • I love all of these suggestions! I think I am going to go w/ a football game for his DS (since he can't play real football now obviously), some gummy worms/candy, gum (my sister said he loves gum) and camo PJs if I can find them.

@Cindy - sadly this actually happened ON the 2nd day of school on the playground! He fell off a pole!

  • I'm glad he's excited about his cast. :)

When SD goes to camp we always fo to the Dollar Tree (Dollar Store) and get all kinds of stuff for her care package. You could get one nice thing & supliment with the cheap stuff. It will make it really fun for him to open the box & find all that stuff. Kids, epecailly at thiat age, prefer quantity over quality.

One thing to put in there for sure is a marker for his friends to sign his cast.
