1 year mark...

Is it important to reach the 1 year mark at your first out-of-college professional job?  I definitely want to gain experience, but it isn't really related the career path I want to be on. I like the people I work with, but it also doesn't pay as much as I would like (duh of course, entry level I know) and it's not really challenging me. How long should you stick it out? Opinions needed.

I've been told that, but if something comes up then I wouldn't wait to apply. I think if you are at a job at least 6 months it doesn't hurt to look for something else. I wanted to wait until my 1 year mark to job hunt - which is january, mainly to see what my raise will be too but I can't stand it here anymore and don't think I can hold out that long. I also have no work so I have a reason to look for something else.

If a new opportunity comes up, it would be worse to let a few months hold you back. Holding one job for less than a year does not make you a job hopper.

My advice would be to start looking and applying for jobs. If a new and better opportunity comes up, acccept it and then leave your current job.
