Costumes

I was just going to add this to randoms, but it's after 5, and randoms are slow from 5 on.

Want to talk about Halloween costumes?  Because my kids sure do.

Willa is soundly decided on Dorothy Gale.  Easy.

Henry wants to be the Mr. Conducter from PBS's the Dinosaur Train, or a puppy, or a weatherman (?!)... today he says he'd like to be a Tin Man/robot.

How about y'all?

Re: Costumes

  • I like to talk Halloween costumes all year! I'm in.

Dorothy Gale and the tinman would be awesome!

My sister had her 3 kids in Wizard of Oz costumes two years ago. She had a Glinda, a Dorothy and a cowardly lion. Adorable.

I've been thinking a mummy for Henry. Grey sweatshirt and pants wrapped up with athletic tape. A few pieces hanging down. He would be warm and snuggly.

He just received a hand me down black Adidas tracksuit and I am imagining him wearing the jacket with a Kangol hat and chunky gold chain a la Run DMC.

And I think he could make a super cute Squiggy. Trying to get my sister to do a Laverne and Shirley theme with me. She has a brunette girl, blonde girl and a blonde boy. I think it would be hysterical - my nieces are not into it.

I won't decide for awhile. The brainstorming will continue.

  • I learned something new today.  I had no idea that Dorothy had a last name until I just now googled "Dorothy Gale".

Also, I LOL'd at the Run DMC costume idea.

  • Ben will probably be a train conductor, because he is obsessed.  I have considered using cardboard boxes and constructing an actual train costume for him to wear, but he would last 3 seconds in something like that without destroying it.

He got a hat from the Thomas the Train day at Crossroads Village that he is obsessed with, so I'll probably just get some overalls, a hankercheif, etc.  Easy peasy!

I cant wait to see pics of Willa as Dorothy! Great choice by her :)

  • We have a witch costume for Allison that we picked up two years ago and Amelia can either be a butterfly or puppy dog. She was the dog last year but I think it would still fit her plus she is obessed with playing dog.

My kids haven't figured out yet that they could actually pick out a costume. hee hee. We have always just picked it out. Actually last year, we gave Allison two choices last year. I love the Old Navy costumes because they are thick and warm, so they are great for trick or treating and I usually would find them on sale for $15.  Next year, I will let them think of ideas. (unless I find a good clearance deal this year Embarrassed)

Chymes, I'm delighted, but the laughter is hurting my 4 tiny incisions.

  • My little one has it between Dorothy, also, and Jessie from Toy Story.  We will see.  I am going to lean toward Jessie, but I will let her have the ultimate choice.
  • I'm excited to see photos in November now!

    Hoek!!!  LOVE those.

Freeburger, that's an easy (and exciting for Ben) costume.  Another option: I bought my nephew a conductors dress up costume for Chirstmas with a few train things.  Big hit.  Sometimes Toys R Us has some great deals on them, and dress up is fun all the time.

Me too!  I think I thought of Vicky Vale and assumed it was associated with a super hero.

    LOL!

  • freeburger - train conductor would be so cute. And you could dress him super warm. Win win.

GRsp - His weatherman is getting a lot of love! I would think suit and tie and some sort of poster board contraption attached to his shoulders extending behind his head with a map and some suns and rainclouds. Hmmmm.

  • I don't get Dorothy Gale.  Embarrassed  Can someone explain it to me?

Maybe I am thinking "vintage" weather man when I suggest a pair of black, horn-rimmed glasses?   I am also picturing a certain hat and suit he'd have to wear.

    I get it.  Nevermind.

  • Before Disney, Maria wanted to be a super girl.  Before Disney, the boys were talking about firemen and super heros.  But, I think for them, it will be pirates and I will have to check with Maria again.  This is usually when we start thinking about it.  I am also attending an adult Halloween party so will need a couples costume.  I am going to rely heavily on Pinterest for this.  I hope they have a good idea for me!

And I couldn't help myself, I bought myself my own pair of Minnie ears (sparkly) to wear during trick or treating so that I look kinda dressed up.

Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.  A tornado (a.k.a. a really strong wind gale) transported her.

    Cute!

And in case you didn't see Kasa's post, Dorothy Gale is from the Wizard of Oz.

Yeah, I tried to delete but got impatient.  But the "Gale" reference gets an "OK, hmmm" from me.  Still sounds like a super hero character to me!

  • Lordie, I haven't dressed up in years.  I will however try to find a cute little outfit for the LO.  Anyone have an infant costume to sell?

  • I love paint!

When I was working on operation Callie and Athena KIT, I really honed some skillz and got quick.

    THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN.

XN and I can reprise our lipdub roles during trick-or-treating if he does.

  • Oh no!  That's fantastically funny!  I'm picturing Henry in a suit, carrying the mandolin (we have one that he likes to call his guitar because it's the right size), and the two of you in your B.S. (hee) shirts skipping along.

    Best laugh of the week!

I hope this helped you get out of your day funk.  I laughed all night about it.

Somehow I missed the fact that you responded.

We can totally do this. Jim can be Rob Bliss, playing the music and occasionally shouting instructions for us. He'll just have to start growing out his hair now. (So, good job planning ahead!) You can videotape the proceedings and Willa can hand out cards inviting everyone to your house for the world premiere (for $5, of course). Tons of people will flock to your house, where you will casually mention that it's for sale. Someone will be so impressed with your climbing tree that they will buy it. WIN WIN!
