Cat ladies

What kind of litter do you use?

At our old house we had a cat door into the garage, so we kept the box out there.  We haven't decided if we want to put another cat door in here, so we put the litter box in the laundry room.  Even when I have just cleaned out the box, the smell of the litter itself is grossing me out.  Apparently the litter I bought just has too strong of a smell, but I didn't really notice it before since I was pretty much only around the litter box while cleaning it.

Re: Cat ladies

  • The litter smell grosses me out too.  The Petco branded litter is pretty good and I have found a new Tidy Cat one that I like as well (can't remember).  Really, though, if I were you, I would add a cat door.  That's the only way to truly avoid the littler smell.
  • Back when we used to use regular litter, I don't recall the name, but it was $5 at walmart for a huge tub, the only one priced like that.

I act like I am an infomercial, but I love the Cat Genie. It is pricey, but totally worth the $$. It hooks up to the water for the washer/dryer and/or the toilet plumbing. It isn't litter, it is washable granules. So basically, the cat goes, and the granules get washed and replaced automatically. This way you never change litter and you can set how many times it runs a day, so no smells of any kind. This is amazing! It seriously pays for itself!

  • I use World's Best cat littler and LOVE it.  Well, as much as one can "love" a cat litter anyway.  lol

You can get it at Petsmart and at Target.  It's pricey, but it's worth it in every aspect to me.  It's flushable and 100% safe, no harsh chemicals for you or kitty to have to deal with, and as long as you keep it scooped regularly, it lasts longer than other litter.  It's FAB!

  • We use Arm and Hammer Super Scoop.  We've never had a problem with smelling the litter.  We have tried using different brands but our kitty is pretty partial to this one and let's us know if she doesn't like a new one by going outside of the litter box.  Not fun!
