Rational or Irrational irritations anyone?
These Jehovah's witnesses have come to my door once a week for forever. I usually won't go to the door unless I'm expecting someone and today I'm expecting some guys to come clean out our gardens and the doorbell rang and it was those same ladies again. They tricked me. I told them I was busy chasing my son around (I lied. He's napping) hoping they'd hurry up and they just kept talking and shoving their booklets in my hands. Nothing is more irritating to me than unexpected visitors at the door and then on top of that shoving religion and asking me questions about my faith... ugh.
Re: Irritations
You have to be firm with Jehovah's witnesses or they will keep coming back. "Sorry I am not interested, I am very happy with my religion. Please don't knock on my door again." Or they will take your sorry I have to run after my son as an invitation to return.
I'm pissed at my teaching agency who will not allow me to work with the letter from immigration which says my visa is in process. The law says I am able to work while the visa is in process. Tofu wrote an additional letter explain the law, they will not allow me to work. I already missed 2.5 weeks of work in July before summer break b/c the agency sucks. SO I'm leaving that agency and going to another one which has been chasing me all summer after I convinced them to pay me ?45 more a day.
Dumb first agency.

Yeh, the problem is H usually will be the one to talk to them so they probably think he's actually interested. It's hard being firm with 2 little old ladies, but next time I will be for sure.
That agency was dumb! Sounds like it worked out better in the end.
Can you ask them to stop stopping by?
I used to get them and once I took their books and thanked them. They came back again to follow up and I told them I threw the books away. They got really upset and I told them that I already have a religion I follow and that I do not want to discuss it with them. They actually got really prissy and asked for the books back. And I reminded them that I threw them away.
Yeh, I probably will tell them to stop coming if they trick me into answering the door again.
They got prissy with me when I told them I had to go so I could watch my son so I think I'll have the nerve next time to stand up to them. ;-)
Thankfully it's really hard to tell that anyone lives in this building, since our front door is in an alley. At my parents house, they put up a No Soliciting sign. Most people didn't know what it meant, so they put up this sign:
No Soliciting means:
No girl scouts
No religious groups
No salespeople
We're not interested, and will never be interested in converting to your religion or buying whatever you're selling.
Everyone who read the sign was offended, but they never knocked on the door again. My family would sit and stare out the windows at them to make them feel uncomfortable.
hahahhahah that cracks me up!
That's funny, bananas.
My old neighbors posted a similar sign that had the last line of your family's sign but included "EXCEPT those selling Girl Scout cookies."
Yeah, never turn a Girls Scout away, those cookies are like crack!
LOL at the JW's, here we usually tell them we're busy and close the door. Has a long time they don't knock on our door though. About the mormons, hmm they're cool, I like them, are not annoying and very polite, especially the americans.
And irritation of the day is, damn USEM!!! I emailed them asking about a form that it's only for Adjustment of Status, AFTER I enter U.S, marry and all... just because I was getting confusing answers everywhere. It was a simple question, "do I need it or not for the interview?", and they confuse me even more.
So now I gotta email them and explain all the instructions for people that are supposed to know it all, and help me. Blah, how can they be so dumb? sighs.
One of my friends signed me up for one of those free information booklets for the Church of Latter Day Saints when we were in college. He thought they'd send me a book and it would be... funny I guess? But he put my REAL phone number. Ugh. They called me for months. And they were so ridiculously nice I felt to bad to tell them it was a joke, so I just kept saying no thanks until they finally gave up on me.
Irritations - Because my hiring was so last minute I am constantly having to ask people to give me access to everything. I am not annoyed with the technology people, they have a billion things on their plate and I feel bad bugging them all the time. They are trying to get everything set up, but some of the programs and complicated and things go wrong. I have to find someone every time I need a copier code or want to sign into the school network so I can use my classroom computer. I know how incredibly lucky I am to get this job, but it could not have happened in a more inconvenient and complicated way. Eh, well, it could have. My coworkers are incredibly nice and helpful. I can't imagine managing all this without their help. But I'm sure they wish I'd had a month to figure all this out instead of a week so I wasn't constantly hunting them down to ask questions.
Cannot wait for the long weekend, I will finally have a minute to sit down and read the giant pile of info I need. They have a different grading system than I am used to so I can't even correct all the homework I've assigned until I do some homework myself.
2012 Reading Challenge
I'm going to de-lurk here. (I'm no IN, but I did study abroad back in the day and occasionally come over here to live vicariously through the European posts).
I lived in the same apt. for 7 years, and once a year like clockwork, the same JW would show up at my door and ask in broken English for the Spanish speaking resident. Every year, I insisted I do not speak Spanish (the truth), and she never believed me, because my address was "on the list". I moved out 8 years ago, I have to wonder if she's still knocking on that door.
The Mormons also had an apt. in the complex, so every so often I'd see a fresh set of boys setting out every morning. They were always so nice and polite, I felt bad for not wanting to discuss religion with them.
