So when DH picked up SD from school yesterday she was wearing lipstick not lip gloss, not chapstick but bright purple/pink lipstick. She's 10. He told her to take it off right then & to give it to him. When they got back to the office (SD stays w/ DH after school & EX picks her up at about 5:30 or 6pm) DH emailed EX and told her what was going on & asked what her thoughts were about it. Here's her response:
"I am aware that SD had lip stick. The lip stick is pink. Please see any section for children clothes or accessories her age, and you will find that lip stick this color is being sold. I do not think it is inappropriate, especially since it is very close to the color of her lips. I will pick up the lip stick this afternoon."
Please tell me who's lips are this color??!?! Where world is it appropriate for a 10 year old to wear this? By the way, I looked up the brand (The Color Workshop) and it is NOT marketed towards children. Even if it were does that mean that every thing that is marketed towards kids is fair game? Abercrombie & Fitch had string bikinis with padded tops for little girls this summer. Would she let her wear one of those?
What an idiot!
Re: this is an appropriate color ... (vent)
Let me try to post these picutures again
IT screams, "HOOKER!!!!" to me.
::bangs head on desk::
Honestly that color should be discontinued PERIOD. I love lipstick, but ick!!!
Totally agree it's not appropriate, but also totally unsurprised that EX thinks it is.

This is EXACTLY what I was going to say! I just asked Jeff the other day if I'm old enough to pull of red...and I'm almost 26! Insane for a girl that age to wear lip stick!

Yikes! That's scary stuff. I think the only time I've ever worn a color like that is when I was playing dress-up when I was little! Nelson gets top father honors for noticing it and taking it away immediately!

Ew! That color should be reserved for Halloween stores! I agree that 10 is too young for lipstick, especially hooker colors!
Is your SD mad, upset, embarrassed that you guys didn't approve of her lipstick? Maybe you could go through a fashion magazine with her and decide which colors looks nice on women, and then go out and buy lip gloss or chapstick that color :P

SD wasn't mad but I think she was a little embarrassed. Nelson told her that she couldn't wear lipstick, period since it wasn't appropriate for someone her age. When I saw her after I got off work she & I talked about it & I explained that 10 year old shouldn't wear lipstick at all & that the color that she had was especailly inappropriate since it was so bright. What cinched her understanding of it was when I put some of her lipstick on. You should have seen her face! I could tell that she was horrified b/c she saw how ridiculous I looked & realized what she must have looked like.
The really sad thing is that she also realized that her mom let her wear it & look so bad. She learned that her mother's judgement isn't very good. It's a good lesson to learn b/c her mom's judgement is bad but it's sad b/c SD's confidence in her mom's decision making took a hit.
Agreed!

Way to go in helping her realize your point!!! You are an awesome step mom for making her understand.
