Clicky Poll: Middle name

Backstory:

My middle name is Elizabeth. Taryn's middle name is also Elizabeth. Unfortunately, MILs middle name is also Elizabeth.

Now it's time to name DD2. I can't decide if her middle name should be Ann (my mother's middle name--so both grandmothers are represented), Nicole (my first name--so both girls have "me" in their names), or Brianne (no connection, I just like the name).

DH doesn't like any of it. He's being such a PITA about names this time (as in, doesn't like what I choose but won't come up with ANYTHING of his own--so I'm picking). His only suggestion was Morgan (as a first or middle name) after his father and I said no. The girls get the last name from that side of the family, and DD shares MILs middle name and I didn't think it was right for there to only be connections to his family (especially because of our awful history).

Re: Clicky Poll: Middle name

  • That sounds like kind of a tough situation.  Was there as much contention around Taryn's name?

  • Not like this, no. DH suggested Taryn, I liked it, we went with it. He says I got to choose her middle name...but he agreed to it, and I don't think he would've been so willing to agree if it hadn't been MIL mn too...plus, it was all before the sh!t hit the fan with her.

I'm 31 weeks and I told him I'm getting sick of him telling me he doesn't like my suggestion, which I love, but then he can't come up with ANYTHING on his own. EVERY time I bring up the name conversation, he blows me off, and well...she needs a name!

His one suggestion was Riley Morgan (which I hate) but he ended up vetoing Riley anyway because of someone he thought of with that name and it's a negative connection.

  • Has your H ever heard of compromise? :)

I like the idea of you giving her your name as a middle. I voted Lacey Nicole.

  • I think it's ok if siblings have the same middle name... what about Lacey Elizabeth?  I actually like that the most.  Then they share something with you and with each other.

It doesn't sound like either of you are truly happy with the choices.  What do you think about this... have him sit down with a baby names book and write down 10 first names and 10 middle names that he likes and you can do the same.  Then you can take turns crossing names off until you get 2 first and 2 middle from each list, and then try to compromise... maybe that would help?

I've considered this as well, but keep wavering if it's weird for them to have the same middle name. It may just be the easier choice and connects the 3 of us.

  • My SIL is Laci Nicole!  Random coincidence.  And her daughter is Elizabeth Nicole. Hehe.

Anyway, I picked that.  I think Nicole or Elizabeth sound the best with Lacey.  Lacey Ann sounds a little, well, country... which a lot of people are where I live, but I don't think that's what you are going for!

  • FWIW, all of my cousins (girls) gave their daughters their middle names. In one case, she had two girls, and gave them both the same middle.

    So Kris*tin Nic*ole has Jad*a Ni*cole and Kia*ra Nico*le
    Car*ly Re*nee has Mi*a Ren*ee
    Linds*ay Br*ooke has Log*an Br*ooke

    I don't think that's strange at all!

(Sorry to put all the annoying stars in, but I don't want them to be able to google themselves or their kids and somehow end up here and find me! LOL)

  • I like how Lacey Nicole sounds.  Nicole is also my first name, although I've always gone by Nikki.  I think Nicole is pretty so I've thought about using that as a middle name for our little girl.

  • Nicole is my middle name and I don't like it... it's everyone's middlename!

I like Anne the best of your choices. But I don't think it would be weird to have Elizabeth, though.
