I'm having a really hard time understanding why people have their panties in a twist about him being on DWTS. All of these parents are yelling about him not being good for their kids to see on TV. Are they denying that this is somehting people live with? Do they think their kids are suddenly going to want sex changes because they see someone on TV had one?
I would think it's a great teaching moment on differences and acceptance.
And really, how often are they even going to bring it up on this show? It's a dancing show. I'm sure now that people got all upset it's going to get a bigger mention than if people just let it be.
Re: Can we talk Chaz Bono?
I agree with everything Kate said.
However, if you are still uncomfortable talking about it with your kids, you could just let them think he is and always was a man. He doesn't look at all like a girl, so I don't really think that would be an issue.
I totally agree with this! Whether you agree with Chaz' "decisions" (if you want to call them that) or not, your kids are going to be exposed to things like homosexuality, transsexuality (is that a word?), etc...eventually. And, frankly, if you are so offended by it, don't watch Dancing with the Stars. Nobody is programming your DVR or changing the channels on your TV without your consent.
Ditto and Amen!!! Parents don't think much about letting their kids watch really violent things on TV, but Chaz Bono is going to confuse them? What is the issue with your kid being confused anyway? Isn't that part of growing up? You live and you learn. Let's have them watch people killing each other because that's normal, but God forbid they learn to be tolerant of differences in human beings. We wouldn't want that now would we? That's just crazy talk.
THIS!
Agreed on all points. It's so effing ridiculous. And really, as scantily clad as the women on the show dress, I wonder why these uber-conservative parents are letting their kids watch it at all. Because that is actually what's more influential to young people, not the transgendered thing.
And I want to echo that he doesn't look in any way female, so how confusing should it be?
