Baby eating help!

I need help on what to feed C. Up until he was 8 months, he was breastfed. While he was on breastmilk, he would eat all kinds of baby food and was not picky at all! So after a while, he stopped eating baby food and has been eating regular people food. At first he did really well...peas, sweet potato, green beans, banana, etc. Well now he won't eat anything really. I know kids are like that, but I don't want to give him crap food. I want him to eat the good stuff. I will say that he loves strawberries! So any help would be greatly appreciated on what I could make him or have him try. Thanks!

Re: Baby eating help!

  • Obviously I haven't experienced this yet, but I would keep offering him a variety of fruits/veggies and eventually he'll get back to eating.  I wouldn't force-feed him, just offer things to him and if he eats it great and if he doesn't that's okay too (I'm sure it's hard to know he's not eating much, but he won't let himself starve).  I think it's probably just a phase.  Are there any foods you'd be okay with him eating that you haven't offered him yet?  Again, I haven't been through this yet so maybe I'm way off but I would just keep trying!
  • I offer him quite a bit. I don't give him any fried food or anything like that. Sometimes it works if i feed him a bite after I eat something to show him it's good, but he wants to feed himself, which is great. I will say that he LOVES smoothies. So when I make myself a smoothie, we usually share it and he get's good stuff that way. I'm looking for suggestions on what other little ones liked when they were about a year old or on what else I could feed him.

Lol yeah, I didn't really answer that part sorry!  You could try soft cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, bagels, low sugar O shaped cereals, eggs, spiral pasta, boneless fish, poultry, mac and cheese.....
  • Hi, I'm usually just a lurker but my daughter is 11 months old and so i thought I could give you some ideas of things she likes, she is also breastfed but she eats mostly finger foods now.

  • I agree with what Jamie said!

Also, my kids liked chunks of fruit like bananas, apples (cut really small), peaches, avocadoes, etc.  They also liked pasta and rice.

Pretty much, I just gave them what we were eating for dinner, but chopped into small pieces so they could feed themselves.  I don't have the energy to make them their own meal, so I didn't.  Sometimes they ate and sometimes they didn't (and even now, sometimes they eat and sometimes they don't.  V has gone to bed without eating dinner a few times).  I have also read in many places that as long as they get what they need over a week they are good.  So they might not eat at all for 3 days, but eat non-stop for 4 days and that is fine.

  • We gave our baby scrambled eggs (in pieces), smoothies with veg juice in them (I may be overly concerned about veg intake b/c she doesn't like them much), all-natural applesauce, blueberries, super-soft peas, mashed potatoes, diced ham...

    Hope that helps! :)
