which hotel?

I am going to a conference for work in a few weeks. Which hotel would you stay at if it were you? Both are located in downtown Atlanta on Centennial Park.

Omni:
- This is where the conference is being held. (big plus)
- Closer to a MARTA station
- We get a continental breakfast with the conference

 Embassy Suites:
- I almost always stay at ES when I travel for work and I have all my hotel points with them (Hilton). It's my go-to favorite.
- Free, hot, cooked to order breakfast
- Free happy hour (although if I'm doing "networking" w conference people I might not have time for this anyway)
- google maps say's it's a 0.2 mile / 4 minute walk to the Omni.

Re: which hotel?

  • Free happy hour? Embassay Suites, hands down.

Yes Love the free happy hour!  I'm a Hilton Honors member so I always try to stay at a Hilton property to get more points.

I love the happy hour but I seriously luurveeee the hot cooked to order breakfast. It puts all other hotel breakfasts to shame.

When I was traveling a lot for work I was up to Gold status which was really nice. We've been able to cash in my points a couple times for free stays. Unfortunately, I don't travel much for work anymore (this is my first trip in over a year) so my points balance is kind of sad right now.

  • Damn, Embassy Suites won't give me the government rate, so the closest Hilton property I could stay at is Hampton Inn. They have hot, buffet breakfast, no happy hour, and it's 1 mile away. I was going to avoid getting a car if possible, but there's no rule that says I can't get a car.
  • I would've said Embassy, which is just awesome all the time, but between Hampton and Omni, probably Omni. I dunno.

Wait, why wouldn't you stay at the Omni in this case?

To me this has now become an easy choice. You lost the 2 most appealing things and it's further away. I'd definitely stay at the Omni where the conference is.

  • Given that other info, Omni.
  • Well this is just turning into one big hassle. The Omni has no rooms at conference rates available. But... I just learned that I may not be allowed to go to this conference after all, which is a whole nother topic for a whole nother post... coming soon.
  • I don't know why you are even questioning this ;)

ETA: I posted before I read the other responses.  Sorry this has turned into a big cluster fluck.

  • I would have said the Omni to begin with.  Staying at the convention site is usually a plus for mingling, socializing and all that's usually expected of me when I go to conventions.  Doesn't the company pay for meals (breakfast) and some entertaining anyway?
