Baby age

When figuring out how old your kiddo is, what is your method?

EX. Paisley is 20 weeks today. I say that makes her 5 months. However she isn't 5 months according to her birth day until the 15th of Sept. What would you say she is, 5 months or 4.5 months?

Re: Baby age

  • After 16ish weeks, I just started going by Sawyer's birth date whenever I needed to describe his age.  That's how they do it at the doctor's office as well.  I know someone who described their daughter's age in weeks well into the first year, and it was so annoying & I could never figure it out, so we just use "about 9-1/2 months" or "almost 10 months" or "just turned 10 months" or whatever, and I always base that on how close we are to the 16th of the month (which is his birth date).

  • I went by the day of the month, so on the 7th of the month, her "months" date would change. I didn't go by weeks because not all months have 4 weeks exactly.

This.  I counted Marshall as being another month old on the 13th of each month.

This. Z is always so many months old based on the 13th.

At this age espcially you are SO FAR from counting weeks, but you aren't counting years yet. So it makes more sense to stick with months by day. It's easy to know when 18, 19 and 20 months come around basing it on that than .... "Okay now how many weeks old is he? Divided by 4 ... okay he's X months"

  • Ditto what everyone else said about using the day of the month that your LO was born on .  I only counted weeks for about the first 12 weeks.   Then I went by months until about 12 months, after that I either round up or down by half years.  Kodi's been 2 1/2 for some time now even though he wasn't officially 2 1/2 until yesterday.  Pretty soon I'll be saying he's almost 3.

  • I used months for the most part and still do.  I stopped using weeks after 12 weeks.  Then I just said 3 months, 3.5 months, etc.  Just remember all but one month have 30 and 31 days and that's more than 4 weeks, so all those extra days add up.  Just like when you are 20 weeks pregnant, doesn't necessarily make you 5 months pg.
