Deer?

The deer have finally found our garden and are eating everything!  We need to put up a fence, but any other suggestions?  Thanks!

Re: Deer?

  • I use Milorganite on the especially tasty plants, like hostas.  It seems to have worked so far.  And the plants look very healthy.

Someone else in the area has strung fishing line in the woods at the edge of her garden.  The deer run into them and don't like it at all.

Some people hang bars of soap (Lifebuoy or Irish Spring or anything especially fragrant) in mesh bag near their plants.  Supposedly the deer don't like the smell.

Hot sauce sprayed on the leaves, lion dung from the zoo -- these are supposed to work, too.

Fences for deer need to be really high, I suggest other ways to repel them. Good luck!

A friend has these new this year protecting her veggies and front ornamentals. So far, so good. She did inadvertantly spray a Jehovah's Witness coming up her front walk, the timer was set wrong.

First of all...LMAO!!! Hilarious to say the least!

Seondly, my parents live in the hilly region close to San Antonio and they have major deer problems. It doesn't help that my mom will put out dinner scraps for them. What she has found works it small chicken wire fencing for her small plants. If you have a large garden area, you'd need something else entirely. I suggest pepper maybe. A lot of animals don't like pepper!
