Oh no, bedrest!

Well I came home early yesterday with horrible sciatic pain in both legs.  I decided not to go to the Triage because they would just give me meds and send me home only to be in pain today.  So after barely making it through the night, I went to the dr this morning and she put me on bedrest.  My initial reaction was "yea, no more school", but my classroom is in no shape to be taken over by someone else yet.  It's only until the 29th, but she said when I come back she may extend it.  I kinda want to go back, but I think my administration at school wants me to go ahead and stay out.  I don't need my dr. permission to stay out and my permenant sub cannot start until I am out for good.  At least by the 29th I will be full term and can hopefully deliever.

Re: Oh no, bedrest!

  • Oh no!  I hope the pain isn't bad when you're resting.  I had sciatic pain pretty bad when I was pregnant.

Are they going to be giving you another growth ultrasound any time soon?

  • Unfortunatly the pain is bad no matter what I do.  But I did get some meds that take the intensity of it away but I still feel the pain.  I don't think I get another u/s, I just hope that Ari decides to come soon.

  • I hope he comes soon for you too!  I know how uncomfortable it gets in the last month.  And the sciatic pain certainly doesn't help.  Rest up!
  • I hope everything goes well for you!  As well as can be expected, anyway!

I too had that EXTREMELY bad with both pregnancies. So much I could barely walk. What helped for me was putting a pillow between my legs when I was laying down as well as putting my feet up and ice in the back/leg area where the pain starts.... the pillow things helped a lot to keep the pressure off...

  • Oh no, that stinks. I had that pretty bad too... and I would be standing in the middle of a store and want to fall over!

I went to a chiropractor, he was pretty strange but it DID definitely help my back. I always felt better afterwards.

I had that back and belly pillow that was fantastic too.

  • Bedrest isn't that bad but I guess if you are in pain that is no good. I hope your discomfort either goes away or is at least relieved some so you can take advantage of relaxing and being waited on before all hell breaks loose..hehe.

Take advantage of the rest!!! Maybe try some pregnancy yoga??? I get sciatic pain on occasion and yoga always helps it...of course that was pre-pregnancy so I am not sure if it would have the same effect.

  • I hope Ari makes things a little easier and pays you an earlier (but not to early) visit.  Im sure your students will miss you.

Take it easy and I hope the pain subsides for you.

  • Hey Hun!

I'm sorry to hear that!  Everything will get better! Rest & Take it easy & let us know if you need anything!

  • The sciatic pain is no fun for sure! Definitely will keep you in my thoughts!
  • Thanks everyone.  Yea the pillow really helps.  It's the only way I can sleep without too much pain.  The meds have also been really good, but I hate being so drugged up and knowing the baby is probably getting some of it too.  I try to take less but I have to take it because DH went back to work and I can't make it to the restroom without help if I don't take the drugs.  I guess it's really not that bad, I just feel bad for my students because it was sudden and I wasn't prepared.
