Suggest some browns for my compost
I have WAY too many greens for my compost which leaves it wet and stinky. Help me think of some browns please. We can't use grass clippings because we are required to have our grass chemically treated, we only drink coffee about once a week, we don't subscribe to a newspaper and we have a yard full of pine trees which means no leaves (just pine straw that we already collect to mulch our beds). I do have a friend who has horses so I could probably get some manure. Suggestions?

Junk mail, envelopes, freebie newspapers. Bags of leaves that are bagged and set out for trash.
Coffee isn't a brown, and neither is manure. But you can get grounds at starbucks if you want them http://www.starbucks.com/responsibility/environment/recycling
Can you pick up some bagged leaves that lawn crews set on the curb?
Take home a newspaper from the office at the end of the day.
Buy some hay or straw. You can add some sawdust if you have any. Dryer lint.
Other than that... maybe try vermiculture instead?
I use a shredder on junk mail/envelopes (w/o the clear windows) and paid bills and other such "paper". It keeps my compost steady with browns during the summer months. In the fall I throw in bags and bags and bags of leaves on it (that I ask my neighbors for) and just hope for the best during the winter months. I have an enclosed pile on the ground if that info helps you at all.
I don't think grass clippings are a brown either unless you wait for them to "die" before throwing them on.
Ditto all of this. Coffee and manure are greens, not browns. We have a hard time finding browns too. We can't use our grass because of the dog poop, and we have no trees. So we take our neighbor's bags of leaves when they put them on the curb, and get old newspapers from Starbucks up the street. They throw away all the old papers at the end of every day.
