Re: How did your team do this weekend?

  • Huskers played Tennessee-Chattanooga and won 40-7.

We lost some amazing kickers so I was nervous about our specialty teams but they looked pretty good.

Offense looked nervous.  Our QB (sophomore this year and played most of last year) is still inconsistent.  He's a quick little guy but needs to be able to read defenses better.

Defense looked pretty solid.  A little confused at times but easy fixes.

The brother of one of my student employees plays at Nebraska. I've never really been interested in the Huskers before but now I'll pay a little more attention. I haven't looked at the stats to see how he did.

Well, I think everyone knows how our (Auburn) game went yesterday. Of course it isn't exactly how I'd hoped it would go but I'm not surprised. After all, we lost 38 players to graduation/NFL from our championship team and had 21 freshman play yesterday. We all knew it would be a rebuilding year. I'm choosing to remain positive and realistic. Now our coaches have a real idea of who can do what, when and where. Our players have that first game under there belt and our special teams and kicking game was outstanding.

I've always been a Trotter fan and he did exceptionally well yesterday. Of course he isn't the show that Cam was but he got it done and we saw some good leadership from him. I was thrilled to see that our team still has that fight that we had last year.

We obviously need a TON of work on defense and I hope Chizik starts to take more control there. Roof just isn't the answer unfortunately. We've struggled under him since he got here. The first year he got a pass since it wasn't his kids. Last year we didn't need the defense to be outstanding since Cam and our offense overshadowed our weakness in D. That just won't be the case this year.

I do have to say that I see the advantages of a game like that. We learned a LOT more through that game than a blow-out ever would have taught. I'm not expecting tons of big wins this year but I'm excited about this team, especially once they gain that valuable experience and figure everything out. There's a lot of talent there. We'll see great things from Auburn football in the future soon. And even if we don't, it is still great to be an Auburn Tiger!

Tre Mason, man, that kid is awesome!

And serious props to Utah State. Regardless of us and how we played, that team is way more talented than people give them credit for. Their QB is good. Good! Their coaching staff was prepared. Their fans (however few there were at the game) were very classy and even though the game didn't end the way they wanted it to, I hope they enjoyed their time on the plains!

ETA: I just reread my post and I don't want anyone to think I'm making excuses, because I'm not. We didn't play well yesterday and obviously we have a LONG way to go. But I believe in our team and our coaching staff (except for maybe Roof...) and I think a lot of people really did forget just how many players we lost. We have a tough, tough schedule this year. And last year, while playing in the SEC is always hard, we did have most of our tougher games at home (except for Bama) and they were night games. I do think the fact that we were able to pull through and win, even if it wasn't pretty, says a lot about our the character of the team and coaching staff.

  • Won 41-3 against a cupcake. Made sone bonehead plays, but overall, I'm happy with how we did. Particularly excited to finally see some 'fire' on the sidelines again! Go Gators!

  • UCF won 62-0 over Charleston Southern... maybe not huge competition but I'm still happy :-)!!
  • Won 42-16 over Montana, not huge competition but i'm excited for the win! Our running game looks shaky but I am really excited about how our quarter back and WR's seem to have found a rhythm!

     GO VOLS!

  • OSU beat Louisiana-Lafayette 61-34 on Saturday. Game started really slow, Weeden looked a little shaky, but I'm pleased. Our D looked awesome [1st string D only gave up 6 points - rest were from INTs and 2nd string], and I mean, we put up 61 on a kinda weak night. I'll take it. As for grey jerseys and white pants...not a fan.

  • LSU vs Oregon.....we won 40-27...Geaux Tigers!
  • The Clemson Tigers played Troy and won 43-19.  We didn't look great in the first half but came around later, especially 4th quarter.  I hope we continue to improve.   have a feeling this might be our coach's last year if we have another crappy season.

  • Mizzou played Miami (OH).  We won 17-6.  They didn't play particularly well, but to give Miami credit - they played pretty well.  I hope it was just first game jitters for Mizzou.  We have a new QB and he seemed to lack a little bit of confidence.  I think we only got 4 first downs by passing...that is definitely opposite of the norm for the last couple of years.

We go to Arizona State this Friday and that is going to be a HUGE test.

  • Pitt beat Buffalo and Tennessee beat Montana. Nothing too exciting with either of those games.

This is the game I attended...  both teams looked pumped up and ready to play, and ironically it was the Oregon offense that had the most stumbles (even though I had thought with the suspensions that LSU would be bit by the turnover-bug).    Great game to kick off the season with, it was a rowdy good time!!

As for my team, the stupid longhorn network isn't available on my cable listing yet, so I had no way to even record it to watch later.   I was told by the friends who did see it that there is a LOT of work to do for us as well, and things weren't quite "clicking" yet either.   That leads me to believe this coming game with BYU might just be our first loss, but I will be watching it either way.
